katie_sane Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 I have a question: In Australia, they are planning to treat out sewerage and turn it into drinking etc, water because we have no other alternative, it just doesn't rain here anymore (especially down the Eastern side of Oz). My question is, does anyone else live in a place where they shower/cook/wash clothes/drink treated water? We heard on the news that London does as well as parts of America and Singapore. True? What are your thoughts?
Rayzor Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 We don't drink treated sewage water in Canada. Plenty of lakes and not many people. Perfect combination to ensure a healthy water and food supply!
MarcM Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 We have fresh water that is local, but very hard. We have to run all of the water that goes into the house through a softener.
katie_sane Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Well there isn't many people in Australia (19 million) but there also isn't many lakes. Marc, the water here is very hard too. Something to do with the minerals in it or something like that? Lots of people use filters here.
Blue Fish Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 me, too. I'd love to try small town life. Well my town is small, but it's far from peaceful!!!
Rayzor Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Small rarely means peaceful or private. Everybody knows everyone else (which sounds like a good thing), but they also know everything you are doing! And if they aren't sure what you're up to at the moment, they will drop by to find out! At least in the city people don't care about others (so peaceful!!)
edna Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 You´re right, but there´s so many people... it´s even hard to walk...
Kevin Posted January 31, 2007 Author Report Posted January 31, 2007 At least in the city people don't care about others (so peaceful!!) Yet a bit impersonal and cold ... I know what you mean , for sure , though -hell any visitors or strangers in town are ' news ' and topics of speculation/ local entertainment for weeks ! I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence ...
The Seeker Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 If I want to google something, say "green apple", and want the results I get to have "green apple" in them and not "something something green something something something something apple", what do I do? Is there any way to tell google I want those words in that order and not with other words in between? (something like adding - oder +)
edna Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 It´s not enough with the "..."? I do it that way and it works. Well, sometimes it works... Where is our Google Queen?
The Seeker Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 I didn't know the "..." -- it works perfectly! Thank you!
Farin Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 yes, putting something in quotes and google will search for the exact phrasing adding a '+' won't change anything, since that is the standard procedure (every word HAS to be on the page) a '-' could be useful to exclude certain search terms
The Seeker Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 I think + works sometimes...if I search for lyrics by The Who for example and enter "the who lyrics" I'll get all sorts of results, but "+the +who lyrics" gets me what I'm looking for. I got edna wrong I think, but it works all the same...I take it you meant "green apple"? green...apple works too.
Farin Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 I think she meant "green apple", I never tried the ... between two words
The Seeker Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 It did surprise me, but as I said, it seems to work.
Farin Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 yes, it works... strange, but good to know
edna Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 I´m glad it works... I meant "green apples" on the google box, just like it is written with the " et all. So you google for the whole sentence and not the separate words.
Farin Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 god didn't make what? Whole sentences? Google? or apples?
Uncle Joe Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 God didn't make little green apples And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
Farin Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 I'm sorry, I don't know that song that's country, right?
Uncle Joe Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 (edited) Yeah...a big pop hit in the 70's by a guy named OC Johnson or something like that. He had a few of them. May have been a Jimmy Webb song but don't hold me to that. It was OC Smith and it was not written by Jimmy Webb. Now you know more than you ever dared dream of about a song you'll never want to hear.
