OLD 55
Thanks very much from Val and I , Judo and Dappled. I was going to nominate a couple of bowls of salad = Soulful Ballads - haven't heard that one before ? - so here's one anyway, happy more than soulful, (and the other could apply to all the joy 37 years of Marriage has brought me). umpire
"Hymn 43"--Jethro Tull Oh, Father high in heaven, Smile down upon your son, Who's busy with his money games, His women and his gun. Oh, Jesus, save me! And the unsung Western hero Killed an Indian or three And made his name in Hollywood To set the white man free. Oh, Jesus, save me! If Jesus saves, well, He'd better save Himself From the gory glory seekers who use His name in death. Oh, Jesus, save me! I saw him in the city And on the mountains of the moon. His cross was rather bloody. He could hardly roll His stone. Oh, Jesus, save me! "In the River"--The Call When I was quite young, I had learned to fear. I was taught to listen, but not to hear. From my mother's arms I was cruelly torn, And they whipped my ass on the day I was born. Little brother died at the age of five. They said, "He lost his soul, he was not baptized," But the river flows, and the heavens cry. And we'll all be drowned in the river, in the river. I remember my sister, on her saddest day, When the boy she loved had been called away. Seems he gave his life in a foreign land, Still my sister cries; she never understands. Now the world is hard, and the cowards lie, And the fool loves war, and the gentle die, But the river flows, and the heavens cry, And we'll all be drowned, in the river,in the river. Well, we built a dam, when the first rains fell. We built it high, and we built it well, But the waters rose, like a beast from hell. Now my house is gone, and the town as well. So we gather here for a silent prayer, For the lives we lost and the love we shared. Still the river flows, and the heavens cry, And we'll all be found in the river, in the river. OLD 55
Val and I thank you very much for your good wishes edna. .................................................. Great to see Kelly (Steel Magnolia) back again. .................................................. I think I'm getting too old for this. I can only see 6 songs I'll definitely vote for so far. Let's hope we get some more good nominations (not that the ones we have already aren't - it's just that I don't know a lot of them). Also, in the spirit of the Top Ten, please note that if you nominate you are expected to vote too ! We've had a couple of people drop in with nominations, and even though I PT'd them they didn't bother voting.
OLD 55
Sorry Martin, but all of a sudden I don't want a 90's no. 1 this week... Oh, and 8 1/2 minutes of twaddle ! They should have quit at the end of the 60s. One day I'll finally nominate their 2 minute Masterpiece "Happy Jack". Beatles, Stones, Who and Animals!! I can't wait to vote! Well I sunk the boot into the Who's song; ditto with Hey Bulldog/ Beatles. The Stones may get my #1 with that wonderful song and The Animals may be in my Ten. No offence intended to any of my friends. We can agree to disagree. We know I'm a 'Pop' person raised on great AM songs.

I fear I'm nearing the end of my musical catalog ( of songs some will know and may consider voting for , at least )... as a matter of fact, no. I'm finally getting hopeful that, due to lack of anything better, people will start voting for the songs I nominate
Kevin
Yes , eventually the list may start to fill up with the more obscure tracks from albums and renominations - at least from me ! .

OLD 55
Thanks very much from Val and I, Phil, Laurie, Kevin and Shawna. I'm sitting here in front of the computer feeling very sleepy after a big lunch at the Osbourne Hotel, which overlooks Moreton Bay. Val and I met some 39 years ago when we worked in the same Bank just down the road from it. She didn't drink, but I used to slip up there for a few beers occasionally. Kevin, there's a heap of great songs that didn't make it first time around that we can renominate - especially as I believe some of the recent nominations are a bit "ordinary" ? I thought I Can't Help Myself had been nominated before. Certainly should've been. It'll be high in my Ten.
