I will have to give Declan McManus credit for that one. It is one of my favorite lyrics of his. In fact Riot Act is one of my all time favorite songs. Maybe I should post the lyrics....yes, I think I will.

Forever doesn't mean forever anymore

I said forever

But it doesn't look like I'm gonna be around much anymore

When the heat gets sub-tropical

And the talk gets so topical

Riot act - you can read me the riot act

You can make me a matter of fact

Or a villain in a million

A slip of the tongue is gonna keep me civilian

Why do you talk such stupid nonsense

When my mind could rest much easier

Instead of all this God damned insolence

I would be happier with amnesia

They say forget her

Now it looks like you're either gonna be for me or against me

I got your letter

Now they say I don't care for the colour that it paints me

Trying to be so bad is bad enough

Don't make me laugh by talking tough

Don't put your heart out on your sleeve

When your remarks are off the cuff

Though there are negative trends, situations and comportments that I do not miss, found in the country of my birth , this thread is not for those things - so here are:

A few thoughts on what I miss about America:

I miss being in a room with maybe 15 people, where everyone is speaking English and I can pick out which clutch of people I want to join, simply by eavesdropping and then chiming in with my thoughts.

I miss highways that are well designed and safe for those who drive safely, that I know will escort me anywhere I want to go.

I miss turning on the TV on a Sunday afternoon, no matter what part of the year, and having 5 or 6 sporting event choices; instead of soccer (click) soccer (click) volleyball (click) soccer ...

I miss driving on shrub and tree-lined streets and seeing yards leading up to houses, instead of seeing walls or fences around every yard, on every street.

I miss the vibrant feeling of anticipation that, with the right idea and the right people to come alongside me, I could become mildly successful, or more.

I miss seeing and hearing very young people that honestly feel the same feeling I just described.

I miss a low, flat, plain that stretches for what seems years, with golden grain heads waving together toward the eastern horizon, as a distant deisel calls "Locomo..." long before the train can be seen.

I miss that sometime unexpected surprise of a person not previously given to doing so, offering me a hug or a kiss on the cheek because they really feel compelled to do so; not because it is an expected custom that is routinely played out upon everyone with whom one comes in contact.

I miss people heatedly complaining about what is wrong with America, but with the next breath actually suggesting solutions - because they really, really care about America.

Is home what you make it? :shades: I lived in three different countries and funny, I never felt at home in none of them. Here I always felt like a "touriste de luxe". I haven´t been in my first country for 33 years now and I´d love to go just to see what I feel...
