TheLizard
I just heard a parody of it, about working in an office, titled "My Cubicle". It was funny, although if I was going off to work in an office on a Monday morning I'm not sure if I'd think so. Weird Al has also recently released a parody of this song. It's called "You're Pitiful".
MindCrime
Silent Lucidity cracked the list Daydream Believer deserves the top spot, I had forgotten how much I liked that song, until recently when I heard it on a commercial on TV. We got 5/10 right, I suppose that ain't bad
OLD 55
Thanks Peaches ! Val was asleep when I went in. Lucky for me; when she gets angry she grows bigger and turns green. I remember many, many years ago when she uncharacteristically got mad at the kids once. I heard one of them mutter "the Incredible Mum". We've laughed about that lots of times since. Daydream Believer only scored 2 Points when it was nominated in our First Top Ten. I think we were sort of steering away from Top Hits/ Artists at that time to try and create "something different". It's well worth a look in the Archives. There were a lot of good songs that missed out. (Let It Be, Johnny B.Goode, etc ...) Anyway, if we have more of these (and this one was popular), we'll give the Top Two each time 'automatic nominations' into the current Top Ten of the time (as we've done with Daydream Believer and A Well Respected Man in #23 now). Shawna
I'm confused.... I thought that, based on where in a voter's list the song fell, it would receive incremental points, i.e. if it was voted #1 on someone's list, it would receive 10 points, if it was #2, it would receive 9 points, and down the line. If this is correct, "Angel Eyes" by Jeff Healey was my #7, so should have gotten 4 points, but shows only 1. Or am I insane?
OLD 55
Human error, Shawna. I have it written down as 4, but somehow it got translated as a 1. Farin probably couldn't read my writing on the list I sent him before I went to bed. Sorry ! I've adjusted it.
Shawna
No worries, Darryl I just wasn't sure if I understood the point system. Thanks for clearing it up!
edna
Sometimes a song doesn´t make the Top ten just because there´s too many other good songs that get most of the votes... I find myself sorry most of the times cause I have to leave some songs I really like... but that´s the game!
blind-fitter
It's great that The Monkees are so well-liked and respected, given that they were little more than a manufactured boy-band.
Malakin
Mmm... Now all my songs on that list are two time losers.. I'll just be sobbing in the corner.
Tenacious_Peaches
Poor Malakin. I'm in the same boat. Let's sob together, shall we?
MindCrime
I always see good bands, favorite artists nominated, but the song isn't a favorite by that band, so I'm forced to omit them. It happens quite a few times on every list.
Levis
TWO of my original nominations made it! Silent Lucidity (Thanks, MindCrime ) and What I Got! Woo-hoo!
Steel2Velvet
One of mine made it to number five - "Hey 19." Ahhh .. the sweet taste of validation. Imagine how Steely Dan must feel right now.
edna
My nominations never make it but I don´t care and I´m :happybanana: :happybanana: :happybanana: Show me a good loser and I´ll show you a loser...
MindCrime
edna, that's how I always felt about little league baseball, whenever we lost & the team felt like sore losers. I wasn't even on the team, so it made me feel like an even bigger loser.
OLD 55
The only one that I really remember nominating out of our final list was Sky High by Jigsaw. I was the only one again who voted for it. It's a particular favorite of mine, from the opening sequence of a Kung Fu movie where the hero comes hang gliding into Hong Kong. Very spectacular (for the early 70s) and the song just fitted in so well.
c_s_1987
Somehow I knew something was wrong, but I couldn't work it out until now. Two of my nominations (Last Goodbye and Every Rose Has Its Thorn) were completely overlooked. I should have realised after my other one (No One Knows) was originally overlooked. Oh well, too late now.
Shawna
It's great that The Monkees are so well-liked and respected, given that they were little more than a manufactured boy-band. As were New Kids On The Block, Back Street Boys and NSync. But they all have a whole lot more money than I'll ever have.
