Batman
I wanna say somthing in the eighties. Haven't a ton of Led Zeppelin songs hit #1? Or do those not count as heavy metal? They are definitely hard rock, but metal? I'm not sure.

MindCrime
Led Zeppelin never hit #1 on the Hot 100, very few rock bands have, & most were ballads during the 80's. This was their 10 biggest charting songs on the Pop Singles Charts Whole Lotta Love | No. 4 | 1970 Black Dog | No. 15 | 1972 Immigrant Song | No. 16 | 1971 D'yer Mak'er | No. 20 | 1973 Fool In The Rain | No. 21 | 1980 Trampled Under Foot | No. 38 | 1975 Rock And Roll | No. 47 | 1972 Over The Hills And Far Away | No. 51 | 1973 Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman) | No. 65 | 1970 Good Times Bad Times | No. 80 | 1969

windy1
I'm thinking everyone's wrong. I don't know what the answer is, but I think I've heard it before and it was much older, maybe from the 60's or early 70's. I'd like to say the rolling stones, although I'm sure it isn't, just cause they're my no.1 band of all time!
Batman
Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida! I'm almost positive thats it! That songs definitely hard rock. Heres a quiz question, fairly easy: Name the 1st band to have all 6* of their albums in the charts at once. *at the time it was six albums. MindCrime
Name the 1st band to have all 6* of their albums in the charts at once. I'm pretty sure the answer to that is the Beatles, but I could be wrong.
scott
If not the Beatles, was it Zeppelin?
windy1
Are we talking albums or singles here? People have posted answers on both. Again I think it's an older group/song and one which is not an obvious choice. am I right on that at least?
Tybalt
I think the answer used to be the Beatles (Hey Jude was once largest selling single record). Does that still hold true? This was in response to bparker1188's original quiz question.
MindCrime
(Hey Jude was once largest selling single record). Does that still hold true? I think the biggest selling single, to date is Elton John - Candle in the Wind, but I could be wrong about that.
Tybalt
There are three questions running in this thread: 1. bparker1188 What band had the number 1 selling record in the world ever? 2. Mindcrime What was the only Hard Rock / Metal song to hit #1 ... 3. Batman Name the 1st band to have all 6* of their albums in the charts at once. Have the correct answers been identified? Sorry I passed along some spurious hearsay. ( Hey Jude was once largest selling single record) As far as a single record by a band, the Beatles are beaten out by Bill Haley & the Comets (Rock Around the Clock). And the Beatles' own I Want To Hold Your Hand tops their Hey Jude. [Remarkably, the Eagles Greatest Hits and many other albums have vastly outsold these singles.] Elton John's record did bang Bing Crosby's White Christmas out of the Number One Seller spot. top albums info (<) Beatles top singles info (<)
Batman
Name the 1st band to have all 6* of their albums in the charts at once. *at the time it was six albums. I think someone got it, it was Zeppelin. Was I right about innagaddadavida?
MindCrime
The answer was Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine, it's the only hard rock song that hit #1 on the Pop Charts in 1988. If anybody has any trivia questions, preferably not able to be researched over the net... I'd like to try & guess.
Batman
Really? Thats incredible! I can't believe it would take that long? Not even Back in Black?
Batman
Here's another quiz question How long did the album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida stay on the charts?
MindCrime
Well I meant Rock song that made it on the Pop Charts, there's a Mainstream Rock chart as well, but finding info about that is hard, even on the net. For the Iron Butterfly album, it peaked at #4 on the Pop Albums charts in 1969, but I don't know how long it stayed for.
