Diana and I spent Carnaval week with some friends who own a beach house - and yes, Jane, except for one day, the week was just perfect for the beach! We live in Curitiba, a big city (almost 2 million), an hour and a half drive through the Serra so Mar (Sawteeth by the Ocean) mountain range that tumbles right down into the Atlantic Ocean. Here's a shot taken near where we were staying that shows a few of those maximum 7000' peaks in the Serra do Mar. On the other side of the mountain range is a 3000' plateau, on which is situated my city. It is always cooler in Curitiba than at the beach, but in summer, that ain't a bad thing. Life continues to be a testing, sometimes scary, ultimately thrilling, whitewater kayak trip. But I have been over the falls and survived. I am not afraid of leaving this world with my music still in me, as I once was. Writing and photography are my compelling masters. I know I am fortunate that they are my artistic outlets plus my way of making a living.
