edna Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I would have to vote for the three or four I don´t like that much... all these songs are so good.
RonJonSurfer Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Think For Yourself is such a great song. I think it shows George at his lyrical best..he really worked on the sound of the words along with the meaning. He is preaching and pissed off. thank Paul for the fuzz bass which I've raved about before.
Elvish Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 What about his solo work? Hope you don't mind, PF! George was a very prolific, very talented songwriter. He's underrated, in my opinion.
Steel2Velvet Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 You missed my favorites as a soloist (non-Beatle, non-Traveling Wilbury) 1. Isn't It A Pity 2. Beware of Darkness 3. Got My Mind Set On You
edna Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I was listening to "Share the land" by the Guess Who and the guitar sounds so Beatle... it reminds me of "While my guitar gently weeps"... then I should say so Clapton, but anyways...
Mike Posted July 25, 2005 Author Report Posted July 25, 2005 You missed my favorites as a soloist (non-Beatle, non-Traveling Wilbury) 1. Isn't It A Pity 2. Beware of Darkness 3. Got My Mind Set On You Excellent song! Isn?t it a pity Isn?t it a shame How we break each other?s hearts And cause each other pain How we take each other?s love Without thinking anymore Forgetting to give back Isn?t it a pity Some things take so long But how do I explain When not too many people Can see we?re all the same And because of all their tears Your eyes can?t hope to see The beauty that surrounds them Now, isn?t it a pity Isn?t it a pity, (oh-o) Now, isn?t is a shame How we break each other?s hearts And cause each other pain How we take each other?s love Without thinking anymore Forgetting to give back Now, isn?t it a pity
RonJonSurfer Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I love the song Dark Horse so much, but had to go with Give Me Love.
miamisammy29 Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 I think "What Is Life" is his best song, but I also like this one very much: MUSICAL INTERLUDE: "I'm shouting all about love While they treated you like a dog When you were the one who had made it so clear All those years ago I'm talking all about how to give They don't act with much honesty But you point the way to the truth when you say, "All you need is love" Living with good and bad I always looked up to you Now we're left cold and sad By someone, the devil's best friend Someone who offended all We're living in a bad dream They've forgotten all about mankind And you were the one they backed up to the wall All those years ago You were the one who imagined it all All those years ago All those years ago All those years ago Deep in the darkest night I send out a prayer to you Now in the world of light Where the spirit free of lies And all else that we despised They've forgotten all about God He's the only reason we exist Yet you were the one that they said was so weird All those years ago You said it all though not many had ears All those years ago You had control of our smiles and our tears All those years ago All those years ago All those years ago"
daslied Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 "Wah Wah" is pretty damn awesome. As are "Isn't It A Pity", "Beware Of Darkness, "I'd Have You Anytime". OK, that whole album...I bet it's the sound envisioned when Phil Spector was brought in to remix "Let It Be". I think my all-time favorite is "Long Long Long" from "The White Album", and I know it's not a solo song, but it has to be the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
edna Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I love this song! An awesome bass line too...
Kevin Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 "Something" . The little song that says everything.
edna Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Apple Scruffs Now I’ve watched you sitting there Seen the passers-by all stare Like you have no place to go But there’s so much they don’t know about apple scruffs You’ve been stood around for years Seen my smiles and touched my tears How it’s been a long, long time And how you’ve been on my mind, my apple scruffs Apple scruffs, apple scruffs How I love you, how I love you In the fog and in the rain Through the pleasures and the pain On the step outside you stand With your flowers in your hand, my apple scruffs While the years they come and go Now, your love must surely show me That beyond all time and space We’re together face to face, my apple scruffs Apple scruffs, apple scruffs How I love you, how I love you "Apple scrufs" were the girls hanging around Apple Records at Saville Row; George Harrison tells they used to invite them to the studio...
katie_sane Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 The first song I ever loved was 'Got My Mind Set On You' by George Harrison (I was four years old). I really like 'Savoy Truffle' off The White Album.
Foxy Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Mine has to be 'Got My Mind Set On You', and 'My Sweet Lord'. Not sure why. Like Katie I guess, thats what I heard when I was a tot!
Mike Posted September 2, 2005 Author Report Posted September 2, 2005 (edited) "I'd Have You Anytime" Yeah, this one always resonates with me, since the first time I heard it.. oh so long ago. Edited September 3, 2005 by Guest
RonJonSurfer Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 The first song I ever loved was 'Got My Mind Set On You' by George Harrison (I was four years old). I really like 'Savoy Truffle' off The White Album. You might already know that it was Eric Clapton's sweet tooth that inspired Savoy Truffle. "Cool cherry cream, nice apple tart...I feel your taste all the time we're apart, coconut fudge really blows down those blues...but you'll have to have them all put out after the the savoy truffle"
EagleEye0 Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 (edited) This is Easy: While My Guitar Gently Weeps The White album is amazing Edited September 12, 2005 by Guest
