Tenacious_Peaches
I think we should all pick a song for Elvish's baby. I came to Songfacts looking for songs for my daughter, so I feel very connected to this idea. I'll even put myself in charge of putting the CD together and getting it to her. Just tell me what song you want to dedicate to her. I doesn't even have to be specifically about babies...something about life, love and hope would be sweet. Funny is fine, too, but don't be stupid. Hopefully I will be able to download the songs...if not, I will contact you to see how I can find the song. I'll start. "Baby Mine" is a beautiful song. It has been done by a gazillion people, but for Elvish I will choose the Allison Krauss version. She has such a pure voice...I think Mama Elvish will like it. ::
Earth-Angel
Pretty baby - Vanessa Carlton I think this is a superb idea! I know this song wasn't intended for a little one, but the words are very sweet and the tune is really nice and the words can fit the situation "Pretty Baby" You light me up and then I fall for you You lay me down and then I call for you Stumbling on reasons that are far and few I'd let it all come down and then some for you Pretty baby don't you leave me I have been saving smiles for you Pretty baby why can't you see You're the one that I belong to I'll be the embrace that keeps you warm For you're the sun that breaks the storm I'll be alright and I'll sleep sound As long as you keep comin' around, oh pretty baby And I know things can't last forever But there are lessons that you'll never learn Oh just the scent of you it makes me hurt So how's it you that makes me better [Chorus] Why can't you hold me and never let go When you touch me it is me that you own Pretty baby oh the place that you hold in my heart Would you break it apart again... oh pretty baby [Chorus] Pretty baby, why can't you see Pretty baby, don't you leave me Pretty baby, why can't you see Pretty baby, don't you leave me, Pretty Baby My Pretty Baby My Pretty Baby

Foxy
"For Your Babies" ~ Simply Red You?ve got that look again The one I hoped I had when I was a lad Your face is just beaming Your smile got me boasting, my pulse roller-coastering Anyway the four winds that blow They?re gonna send me sailing home to you Or I?ll fly with the force of a rainbow The dream of gold will be waiting in your eyes You know I?d do most anything you want Hey I, I try to give you everything you need I can see that it gets to you I don?t believe in many things But in you I do Her faith is amazing The pain that she goes through contained in the hope for you Your whole world has changed The years spent before seem more cloudy than blue In many ways your baby?s controlling When you haven?t laid down for days For the poor no time to be thinking They?re too busy finding ways You know I?d do most anything you want Hey i, I try to give you everything you need I?ll see that it gets to you I don?t believe in many things But in you I do You know I?d do most anything you want Everyday I, I try to give you everything you need We?ll always be there for you I don?t believe in many things But in you I do

Tenacious_Peaches
One I sing to my daughter is 'Baby I Love You' in a Ramones/Phil Spector stylee. Will this fit? Yes, it will fit nicely. As I downloaded it, my daughter was dancing furiously to it...so thank you for that, Diggs. It was quite a spectacle! I like House on Pooh Corner, and I think Danny's Song? Windy, I already have House on Pooh Corner, but I don't know Danny's Song. Who sings it? I've got all the songs so far. Keep 'em coming! ::
_jr_
God's Speed, by the Dixie Chicks was specifically written for one of their kids. I couldn't tell you which one, though. It's very peaceful. Makes me sleepy. Also, it was written for a boy. I don't recall all the lyrics off the top of my head, but some of them say something about drifting off to sleep on angel's wings. God's speed, little man Sweet dreams, little man. If I weren't so lazy, I'd go get the cd and have a look.

Uncle Joe
Wonder by Natalie Merchant doctors have come from distant cities just to see me stand over my bed disbelieving what they're seeing they say I must be one of the wonders of god's own creation and as far as they can see they can offer no explanation newspapers ask intimate questions want confessions they reach into my head to steal the glory of my story they say I must be one of the wonders of god's own creation and as far as they can see they can offer no explanation o, I believe fate smiled and destiny laughed as she came to my cradle know this child will be able laughed as my body she lifted know this child will be gifted with love, with patience and with faith she'll make her way people see me I'm a challenge to your balance I'm over your heads how I confound you and astound you to know I must be one of the wonders of god's own creation and as far as you can see you can offer me no explanation o, I believe fate smiled and destiny laughed as she came to my cradle know this child will be able laughed as she came to my mother know this child will not suffer laughed as my body she lifted know this child will be gifted with love, with patience and with faith she'll make her way Just change she to he and her to him when you sing along. A few bars of New Kid In Town by The Eagles would fit nicely. Not the entire song, just the refrain. Kenny Loggins' Return To Pooh Corner and Danny's Song are great. Anne Murray's version of Danny's Song is good, too but it omits an entire verse. John Denver's For Baby is great, or try PP&M's version. I used the first verse from James Taylor's Your Smiling Face on my grandaughter's CD. Nice. Carly Simon's Love Of My Life . Lovable by Sam Cooke A bit of The Beatles Birthday . And some lullabyes at the end.... All The Pretty Little Ponies ..Kenny Loggins (or many other artists) Go To Sleep ...Deniece Williams Dreamland ...Mary Chapin Carpenter Goodnight ...Linda Ronstadt's version Anyway, if you want any of these songs I'd be happy to send you a CD. Is the excitement building? Fun, huh? You are truly blessed. So is your baby.

OLD 55
Hi Elvish. Hope you're doing just great! One that my daughter liked when she was having her first was "Baby Baby" by Amy Grant. Of course when the bub gets a bit older you'll be looking for songs with repetition. I used to sing "Barbara Ann" to our Grandaughter to stop her crying! (Go the Beach Boys, Katie). Foxy
Ok, sitting here listening to "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill", that I haven't listened to for probably 4 years, I found this wonderful song. Some of the lyrics in this don't apply but it's a really nice one. "IN ZION" BY LAURYN HILL "Unsure of what the balance held I touched my belly overwhelmed By what I had been chosen to perform But then an angel came one day Told me to kneel down and pray For unto me a man child would be born Woe this crazy circumstance I knew his life deserved a chance But everybody told me to be smart Look at your career they said, "Lauryn, baby use your head" But instead I chose to use my heart Now the joy of my world is in Zion Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come See life for you my prince has just begun And I thank you for choosing me To come through unto life to be A beautiful reflection of his grace For I know that a gift so great Is only one God could create And I'm reminded every time I see your face"

Elvish
*BUMP* Got the CD today and I'm listening to it right now. Thanks again, Peaches, and everyone that contributed. It's really special to have something from the songfacts family to share with the baby. Peaches, the bib you sent along was cute. "Later, I'm Downloading" - too funny (and fitting)!
