MindCrime Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 What band's comeback would you pick as the best or most successful after having a long time away from the spotlight. For me... Pink Floyd in 1987 with Momentary Lapse of Reason, even though it was mostly a David Gilmour solo album. It was 7 years since The Wall & they finally remarked the same creativity that they once showed. Underrated by both critics & fans, this was still one of their strongest points. I tried to search for this topic, & it surprisingly never came up.
Tenacious_Peaches Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Best comeback? "Your momma has a wooden leg with a kickstand on it."
miamisammy29 Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Oh yeah?? Well, your momma is so ugly, she looks like she fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down!
Tenacious_Peaches Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Oh, yeah? Well your momma's so fat, she broke her leg and gravy poured out! :: MC____, I am so sorry to hijack your perfectly respectable music thread. It's a sickness...I'm considering therapy. Anyway, I think Tina Turner had the best comeback.
Denmark Street Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Elvis' '68 TV Special. Just when everyone had written him off and he seemed doomed to make bad hot rod and beach movies for the rest of eternity... he was back looking mean, moody & magnicent in black leather! It catches him just at the point before he became a Vegas act in sparkly jumpsuits. The 68 special is easily available on video. If you've never seen it, and think he never did anything good after he was drafted into the army, then do yourself a favour and check it out. He looks and sounds great, and is given the chance to sing the songs he really loved, those of his youth rather than dumb film tunes. Superb!
edna Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Marianne Faithfull had a very good comeback with "Broken English", at the end of the 70´s. She completely changed her style and now I like what she does.
Uncle Joe Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Though I was never a big Elvis fan I must agree with Denmark Street. Elvis' 1968 TV Special was electric. It signaled in a big way that he not only was back but was better than ever. His subsequent career bears out the impact of his comeback.

I didn´t see the TV special, by that time I was a teen and living in Argentina. But I remember all the comments about it. What songs did he sing by that time? I love "The wonder of you", "Suspicious minds" or "You don´t have to say you love me", but I guess these were songs from his Vegas&suits...I can´t check records nor books because (sigh...) I´m moving on and my things are packed until I finally settle down. If you know more about this, please let me know.
Denmark Street Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 I was only seven in 1968 and it wasn't shown here in England anyway, so I 've only become familiar with it since. I like him , but wouldn't call myself a huge Elvis fan...but you can't help but love him in this show, and its easy to see what all the fuss was about back in 1958 !! Apparently, his manager Colonel Tom Parker wanted him to appear in a baby blue tuxedo singing Christmas Carols!!! I'm pleased Elvis decided against that!
XXX Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 There was a time when some Rock fans asked, "Who are those black guys singing with Aerosmith?" It was then they made a comeback :: There's also Tina Turner's comeback in '84.
cosmosis Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 RUSH!!! After 7 years without recording or touring, the album is OK, but the tour was awesome!!!! :guitar: ::
Danielj Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Rush :: :: :: :guitar:

Aunt_Acid Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 I'm just kidding. I like Rush. you've never heard them you said so in another thread I have too heard them, you young Michael Moore.
mermista Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 I'm just kidding. I like Rush. I have too heard them, you young Michael Moore. That's the best comback IMO
MindCrime Posted October 15, 2004 Author Report Posted October 15, 2004 Um, how did this thread get stretched ?
_jr_ Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Daniel-san. He ALWAYS does it. It's a bad habit of his.
Catherine Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Best comeback? "Your momma has a wooden leg with a kickstand on it." Thank you Peaches...you made my morning! That was funny! I'll be on an Eddie Murphy kick all day now! ::

I need not add a thing except what always gets me is the womens' reactions in the audience of the '68 Comeback Special. I swear, he could've...well, let's just say he had 'em eating out of his hand. Nobody captivated like he did.
edna Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Duran Duran is back after 20 years! (seems the record company announcement!) Anybody heard it?
MindCrime Posted October 17, 2004 Author Report Posted October 17, 2004 I have, they play that new song that's about the Sun on one of the radio stations. I wasn't too impressed by it, they had a more impressive & successful comeback 11 years ago though.
edna Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 I love "New moon on monday"... and "Rio". Those are unpacked because we bought the cd after we decided to move.
MindCrime Posted October 17, 2004 Author Report Posted October 17, 2004 Those songs were from when they were big though, they've since completely faded into oblivion, I realize I use that metaphor too often.
