Not the kind that witches conjure up, but spell as in saying each letter of the word. This is a category that would play well on Sesame Street, and it makes for an interesting collection of songs. Here's what we have so far in our Songs that spell out words in the lyrics category. Any we missed?

F.E.A.R. by Ian Brown

Fergalicious by Fergie

F.I.N.E. by Aerosmith (and What It Takes, which spells it out again)

Gloria by Them

Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani

Lola by The Kinks

Respect by Aretha Franklin

Safety Dance by Men Without Hats

Saturday Night by The Bay City Rollers

U.N.I.T.Y.by Queen Latifah

Velouria by Pixies

"Sssh!" by Chumbawamba (opening track of their album "Sssh!" contains the lyric "L.A.U.G.H.I.N.G.: Laughing".

The above is a pastiche of:

"Shopping" by The Pet Shop Boys, which features the lyric "S.H.O.P.P.I.N.G.: Shopping".

Other examples that have come to mind:

"Baby" by Rachel Sweet ("B.A.B.Y., Baby!")

"(Watch Me Eat A) Hot Dog" by The Detroit Cobras ("H.O.T. D.O.G. Hot Dog!")

"C.R.E.E.P." by The Fall

and:

"Shaky Egg" by Rudolf Rocker, in which the word "egg" is needlessly spelt out a couple of times.

"Beastie Boys" by the Beastie Boys, from the "Pollywog Stew" E.P. (back when they were a hardcore punk rock band) begins with "Aaahhn B-E-A-S-T-I-E Go!" then has the spelling out of B-E-A-S-T-I-E as a recurring lyrical motif.

"Beastie Boys"

Meanwhile, the moderate UK chart success of BowWowWow's ode to lazy parents, "W.O.R.K. (N.O. Nah No No My Daddy Don't)", hinged on its catchy refrain "W.O.R.K. N.O. Nah no, no no, my daddy don't. W.O.R.K. N.O. Nah-no, no no, my mummy don't..., etc."

"W.O.R.K. N.O. Nah No No No My Daddy Don't"

I guess we poached it from Spinner. Someone sent in the suggestion and I loved it.

Kenne, "American Woman" is a great call. The album version has that long intro where they spell out the song. Probably the longest spelled out song in music.
