Golden Oldies Top 40 #13

Recommended Posts

WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN OLDIES TOP 40 #13. :)

All members of Songfacts are most welcome to vote and help create next week's Top 40. Don't be shy. It may look a little complicated, but it's not really. You don't have to be an 'oldie' like me - just someone who appreciates this kind of music.

.................................................

Eligibility of songs:

* U.S. Charted Pop AND R&B Singles of the 1950s+ era, but not charted after 1963.

* No Album Only Tracks or Uncharted B Sides.

* U.S. Chart Links may be found for on Songfacts' Main Index page, where there are alphabetical links to many songs, either by Title or Artist. If your songs aren't there, you could use Google/Wikipedia - or PT me if in doubt.

..................................................

IT'S EASY !!! Allot your points in 3 sections:

PART A: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #12 (below) you'd like to advance:

(Plus) +5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

PART B: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #12 (below) you don't really care for, or you think could make way for others:

(Minus) -5, -4, -3, -2, -1.

PART C: 5 New Songs you'd like to see in the next Top 40:

(Plus) *5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

Please note that these may be duplicated on a number of Lists - you can go along with others to support songs you like.

VOTING IS NOW OPEN ! :)

Now for the answer to last week's trivia question. In case you missed it, here it is again:

3 artists in this week's [week 12's] countdown reached the Billboard pop charts with covers of other songs in this week's countdown: who are they?

Darryl came up with 2 out of 3 (which ain't bad :jester: )

The Coasters, who covered Love Potion #9 in 1971

and Del Shannon, who covered Sea of Love in 1982.

Ironically, Del Shannon actually produced the third hit, back in 1970. It was the follow-up single to a #3 comeback hit also produced by Shannon -- the smash "Gypsy Woman" -- and it was a cover of Jackie Wilson's "Lonely Teardrops" ... by Brian Hyland!

Thanks Phil. :) I like all of your Newies, especially Ivory Joe Hunter.

And practically everything by The Platters; especially The Great Pretender.

The Newies votes are very diverse this week. Further voters will need to support some previous nominations if we want to have more new entries.

When i was a young lad in the middle of the 1960s there was a radio program every Sunday that was called Oldies But Goodies and they played music from 1955 to 1961 or so. The oldies were barely 10 years old :) Nowadays what we call Oldies is music from that same period and I guess that's the way it's going to be. Maybe it's because the music was new, happy and innocent. What do you think?

Some of my pupils listen to that kind of music and they call it "old goodies". Some of them like rockabilly too. So there is still hope ;)

So there is still hope ;)

Thank you, Dapp, now that my world is crumbling down thanks to some teenagers who love rap, this brings some hope...

Thanks for sharing that with us Lars. :)

We still have an AM Station that has a couple of similar programs.

"Saturday Night Jukebox", which used to be just 50s and 60s, but now there's 70s included too. And "Sunday Morning Sixties" which I don't get to hear much of, except on the way to Church.

:headphones:

Would anyone else who's going to vote please do so soon, so I can get my typing (and I use the word very loosely) of the Top 40 underway ? It takes me ages. Thanks.
