I Drink Alone - George Thorogood

Mentions these brans of booze: Johnny Walker Black and Red, Old Granddad, Budweiser....I know I'm missing one or two.

Sheryl Crow has a song called "Love is A Good Thing" that talks about people shooting each other with a gun bought at a "Wal-Mart discount store". Wal-Mart was unhappy about that and wouldn't sell her records.

It took me some time to find the song Downtown Suzie.

Edna is a connoisseuse des Rolling Stones.

Chapeau!

I would add: Queen, in Killer Queen.

"She keeps her Moet et Chandon in her pretty cabinet" .

Is it advertising? Well, at least it‘s mentioning a brand of champagne.

I prefer Pieper Heidsieck.

perhaps.. but to "Joe vs. the Volcano" yokels like me, I see a can of orange soda when I hear it.

I confess, I've never really listened to the words to decipher the meaning... nor looked at the SF for it. ;)

it's about the US using chemical warfare during the Vietnam war :P :couch:

Slightly more explicit than a song that mentions or advertises a product: I know only one example of a rock ‘n roll band that has recorded an advertisement as such.

In the early sixties, The Rolling Stones recorded a commercial message for "Rice Crispies".

In Europe, the soundtrack was broadcasted by one of the first American-style commercial radiostations: Radio Luxemburg.

I don‘t know where this cute commercial film originates from:

Any other examples of rock ‘n roll bands doing commercials?

Debra ~ Beck

I met you at JC Penny

I think your nametag said "Jenny"

I cool stepped to you

With a fresh pack of gum

Somehow I knew you were looking for some

(oh no!)

Like a fruit that's ripe for the picking'

I wouldn't do you like that

Zankou Chicken

'Cause only you got a thing

That I just got to get with

I just got to get

Get with you

And you know what we're gonna do

I wanna get with you (Oh girl)

And your sister

I think her name is Debra

I wanna get with you (Only you girl)

And your sister

I think her name is Debra

Girl, I only wanna be down with you

'Cause you got something

That I just got to get with

I'll pick you up late at night after work

I said "Lady, step inside my Hyundai

I'm gonna take up to Glendale"

...

"Don't Be A Dummy" was recorded by Gary Numan & Tubeway Army specifically for an advert for Lee Cooper Jeans. This was just before they gatecrashed the UK charts and hit #1 with "Are Friends Electric?". To cash in on the combined cultish appeal of the ad and the sudden success of Tubeway Army, the song was swiftly re-recorded and issued as a single - but performed by John DuCann (of Atomic Rooster) instead of Gary Numan - and scored a minor chart hit.
