R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A

They come from the cities

And they come from the smaller towns

Beat up cars with guitars and drummers

Goin crack boom bam

Chorus:

R.o.c.k. in the u.s.a.

R.o.c.k. in the u.s.a.

R.o.c.k. in the u.s.a., yeah, yeah!

Rockin' in the u.s.a.

Said goodbye to their families

Said goodbye to their friends

With pipe dreams in their heads

And very little money in their hands

Some are black and some are white

Ain't to proud to sleep on the floor tonight

With the blind faith of jesus you know that they just might, be

Rockin' in the u.s.a.

Hey!

Voices from nowhere

And voices from the larger towns

Filled our head full of dreams

Turned the world upside down

There was frankie lyman-bobby fuller-mitch ryder

(they were rockin')

Jackie wilson-shangra-las-young rascals

(they were rockin')

Spotlight on martha reeves

Let's don't forget james brown

Rockin' in the u.s.a.

Rockin' in the u.s.a.

Hey!

Chorus:

R.o.c.k. in the u.s.a.

R.o.c.k. in the u.s.a.

R.o.c.k. in the u.s.a., yeah, yeah!

Rockin' in the u.s.a.

just listened to:

"Ich habe geträumt, ich wäre Pizza essen mit Mark E. Smith" by Tocotronic

which translates to "I dreamt, I was eating Pizza with Mark E. Smith" who, as you probably all know, is the lead singer of The Fall

I dreamt I was eating Pizza with Mark E. Smith

of course he told me how terrible everything is

We talked and ate almost the whole night

at the end he told me how to make records

I never just thought in my dreams about it

but I've, so to speak, spend the night with Mark E. Smith

Jackie Wilson Said - Van Morrison

Da, da, da, da, da,

Jackie wilson said

It was "reet-petite"

Kinda love you got

Knock me off my feet

Let it all hang out

Oh, let it all hang out.

And you know

I'm so wired-up

Don't need no coffee in my cup

Let it all hang out

Let it all hang out.

Watch this:

Ding-a-ling-a-ling

Ding-a-ling-a-ling-ding

Ding-a-ling-a-ling

Ding-a-ling-a-ling-ding

Do-da-do-da

I'm in heaven, i'm in heaven

I'm in heaven, when you smile

When you smile, when you smile

When you smile.

And when you walk

Across the road

You make my heart go

Boom-boom-boom

Let it all hang out

Baby, let it all hang out

And ev'ry time

You look that way

Honey chile, you make my day

Let it all hang out

Like the man said: let it all hang out.

Watch this:

Ding-a-ling-a-ling ... etc.

the recent posts in Earworms made me think of this song:

Sumisu ~ Farin Urlaub

our days were dark

our shirts were black

we stood in the corner of the schoolyard

and we exchanged deeply disappointed looks

and everytime we were sad (sad we were quite often)

we went to your home and listened to the Smiths

our nights were lonely

our hearts were heavy

there was nobody who could or wanted to understand us

and so we were getting close

and everytime we were sad (sad we were quite often)

I took you in my arms and we listened to the Smiths

sometimes also the Cure or New Order

but mostly the Smiths

Neil Young mentions Bob Dylan, on the album Living With War:

"Flags Of Freedom"

Today's the day our younger son

Is going off to war

Fightin' in the age old battle

We've sometimes won before

Flags that line old main street

Are blowin' in the wind

These must be the flags of freedom flyin'

Church bells are ringin'

As the families stand and wave

Some of them are cryin'

But the soldiers look so brave

Lookin' straight ahead

Like they know just where they're goin'

Past the flags of freedom flyin'

Sister has her headphones on

She hears the music blasting

She sees her brother marchin' by

Their bond is everlasting

Listening to Bob Dylan singin' in 1963

Watching the flags of freedom flyin'

She sees the president speakin'

On a Flat-screen TV

In the window of the old appliance store

She turns to see her brother again

But he's already walkin' past

The flags of freedom flyin'

Have you seen the flags of freedom?

What color are they now?

Do you think that you believe in yours

More than they do theirs somehow?

When you see the flags of freedom flyin'

The Clash - "White Man In Hammersmith Palais"

Midnight to six man

For the first time from Jamaica

Dillinger and Leroy Smart

Delroy Wilson, your cool operator

Ken Boothe for UK pop reggae

With backing bands sound systems

And if they've got anything to say

There's many black ears here to listen

But it was Four Tops all night with encores from stage right

Charging from the bass knives to the treble

But onstage they ain't got no roots rock rebel

Onstage they ain't got no...roots rock rebel

Dress back jump back this is a bluebeat attack

'Cos it won't get you anywhere

Fooling with your guns

The British Army is waiting out there

An' it weighs fifteen hundred tons

White youth, black youth

Better find another solution

Why not phone up Robin Hood

And ask him for some wealth distribution

Punk Rockers in the UK

They won't notice anyway

They're all too busy fighting

For a good place under the lighting

The new groups are not concerned

With what there is to be learned

They got Burton suits, ha you think it's funny

Turning rebellion into money

All over people changing their votes

Along with their overcoats

If Adolf Hitler flew in today

They'd send a limousine anyway

I'm the all night drug-prowling wolf

Who looks so sick in the sun

I'm the white man in the Palais

Just lookin' for fun

I'm only

Looking for fun

Oh please mister just leave me alone

i'm only looking for fun

I highlighted the line about "Burton Suits", not because that's the name of an artist - it's actually the name of a reputed UK gents outfitter - but, because it is a snide reference to The Jam. There was a lot of competitiveness and back-biting amongst the "front-runners" in the UK punk scene. Ironically, The Clash ultimately did a pretty fine job themselves of "turning rebellion into money".

I Dig Rock And Roll Music~Peter, Paul & Mary

I dig the Mamas and the Papas at "The Trip," Sunset Strip in L.A.

And they got a good thing goin' when the words don't get in the way.

And when they're really wailing, Michelle and Cass are sailin'.

Hey! they really nail me to the wall.

I dig Donovan in a dream-like, tripped out way

His crystal images tell you 'bout a brighter day

And when the Beatles tell you

(Beatles tell you)

Because they will love to tell you

(Oh yes)

They mean exactly what they say

Did I already mention Pavement? I should have...

Out on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins,

Nature's kids, they don't have no function

I don't understand what they mean and I really couldn't give a f*ck

The Stone Temple Pilots, they're elegant bachelors,

They're foxy to me are they foxy to you?

I will agree they deserve absolutely nothing,

Nothing more than me

Metal by Numbers ~ Brian Posehn

They've killed METAL twice, but it will never really die!

It's kind of like a zombie or even that Jesus guy…

So grab your friends, some instruments and start a metal band

Just sing about death, Egypt and wizards or rip off Ayn Rand

We're coming to the end of the first verse…

Then comes the breakdown, a pretty chorus and then the second verse.

I know I just rhymed verse with verse

That's because I'm sooo METAL, b**ch, where's your f***ing purse?

BREAKDOWN!!! In this part it sounds like the singer wants to fight…

BREAKDOWN!!! Don't be scared, the chorus will make it all alright

Metal by numbers, 1, 2, 3

Follow these rules and you will see

Cookie monster vocals or yell like a wookie

Metal by numbers, COOKIE, COOKIE, COOKIE

Metal by numbers, 1, 2, 3

THIS IS THE GAY PART, with melody

Even a baby could do it, just give it a try

Just sound like Maiden or Metallica or Every Time I Die

I have to change my voice to make me sound (gang) MAD!

If I tried to sing clean it would make your ears (gang) SAD!

This is the (gang) GANG VOCAL and I'll tell you the (gang) TRUTH!

It's four sweaty dudes yelling in a (gang) BOOTH!

Music really s**ks now Posers and trendy FOOLS

But compared to Coldplay and Nelly, EVEN SH**TY METAL RULES!

It's metal by numbers, it's not arithmetic

John Mayer, Kelly Clarkson…they all can suck my P**IS!

BREAKDOWN!!! In this part it sounds like the singer wants to fight…

BREAKDOWN!!! Don't be scared, the chorus will make it all alright

Metal by numbers, 1, 2, 3

Follow these rules and you will see

Cookie monster vocals or yell like a wookie

Metal by numbers, COOKIE, COOKIE, COOKIE

Metal by numbers, 1, 2, 3

THIS IS THE GAY PART, with melody

Even a monkey could do it, just give it a try

Copy Maiden or Metallica or Every Time I Die

Here it comes! C'mon! All Right!

ARE YOU ALMOST READY??

Dammit! I missed it!

(SPOKEN) This is the mosh part! MOSH!!!

Or don't. It's your call. I just stand in the back and try not to get hit. Watch out for the shirtless white trash guys. They'll punch you and they stink. And look out for the screamo kids practicing their karate kicks. Dude, you look gaytarded. Oh no. Here comes a giant Mexican - he looks really pissed. I wish everybody would put their shirts back on, it's kind of gross. Is this part still going? Here comes the lead break…Oh, not yet. Here it comes… here it comes. GO!

Metal by numbers, 1, 2, 3

Follow these rules and you will see

Cookie monster vocals or yell like a wookie

Metal by numbers, COOKIE, COOKIE, COOKIE!

Metal by numbers, 1, 2, 3

THIS IS THE GAY PART, with melody

Even a retard could do it, JUST GIVE IT A TRY!

Steal from Maiden or Metallica or Every Time I Die

"Luckenbach, Texas" by Waylon Jennings…

Between Hank Williams' pain songs

Newbury's train songs

And "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain"

Out in Luckenbach, Texas

Ain't nobody feelin' no pain

(Later in the song, Willie Nelson sings the verse, changing Newbury (Mickey Newbury) to Jerry Jeff (Walker).)

Garden Party

- Artist: Rick Nelson

- peak Billboard position # 6 in 1972

- inspired by Rick's experience at a Madison Square Garden concert

- Words and Music by Rick Nelson

I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends

A chance to share old memories and play our songs again

When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name

No one recognized me, I didn't look the same

CHORUS

But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.

You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

People came from miles around, everyone was there

Yoko brought her walrus, there was magic in the air

'n' over in the corner, much to my surprise

Mr. Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes wearing his disguise

CHORUS

lott-in-dah-dah-dah, lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Played them all the old songs, thought that's why they came

No one heard the music, we didn't look the same

I said hello to "Mary Lou", she belongs to me

When I sang a song about a honky-tonk, it was time to leave

CHORUS

lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)

lot-in-dah-dah-dah

Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode

Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should

If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck

But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck

CHORUS

lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah)

lot-in-dah-dah-dah

'n' it's all right now, learned my lesson well

You see, ya can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself

Heard this one on my iPod:

Fear in the air, tension everywhere

Unemployment rising fast

The Beatles new record's a gas

And the only safe place to live

Is on an indian reservation

And the band played on

Ball of Confusion-Temptations

And this on my car radio as I was pulling into my driveway:

Put on a little Dylan, sitting on a fence

I say that line is great, you ask me what it meant by:

"Said I shot a man named Gray, took his wife to Italy

She inherited a million bucks, and when she died

It came to me, I can't help it if I'm lucky"

Only Wanna Be with You-Hootie & the Blowfish

And also remembered these:

That's the way it began, we were hand in hand

Glenn Miller's Band was better than before

We yelled and screamed for more

And the Porter tunes (Night and Day)

Made us dance across the room

It ended all too soon

And on the way back home I promised you'd never be alone

Reminiscing-Little River Band

And:

With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue

dissolve the nerves that have just begun.

Listening to Marvin (all night long.)

This is the sound of my soul,

this is the sound.

True-Spandau Ballet

So when do I get to sing 'My Way'?

When do I get to feel like Sinatra felt?

When do I get to sing 'My Way' in heaven or hell

So when do I get to do it 'My Way'?

When do I get to feel like Sid Vicious felt?

When do I get to sing 'My Way' in heaven or hell

When do I get to sing My Way? ~ Sparks
