RonJonSurfer
Slash Slams Modern Guitar Players Former Guns N' Roses star Slash has slammed the new generation of guitar players, insisting he is the last of the "identifiable" icons of rock 'n' roll. The legendary rocker is convinced having a decent guitar player who stands out is one of the main necessities for any band. But the 42-year-old is saddened by modern music as he feels new bands focus too much on the frontman and don't concentrate on finding good guitarists. He says, "It's sad. There's no identifiable guitar players in rock 'n' roll any more. With the exception of (White Stripes star) Jack White - who is great - the new breed of bands aren't bringing out decent guitarists. "Rock 'n' roll is so diluted in this millennium, you just don't hear good solos. And I hate emo (mainstream soft-core punk)." Foolonthehill
I wouldn't say he was ever an "identifiable icon" let alone now.

Lucky
I was just going to say the same thing. I'm no huge fan of Slash, but I agree with everything he said.
Rayzor
I am a fan of Slash and I know he has a bit of an ego but he earned the right to have one. He also earned the right to say what he did and I agree completely! :guitar:

c_s_1987
There are plenty of guitarists today, even popular ones, who are icons or have the potential to be icons (John Frusciante, Noel Gallagher and Mike McCready come to my mind as guitarists today who are both popular and great). However, for every one great popular guitarist today, there are several who are crap and just play simple chord progressions most of the time.
