Otokichi
Profuse apologies if this subject has been discussed before. Mad magazine did/does it, JibJab does it, comedians do it. Start with a known song's melody and write different words/subject to comic/satiric effect. Rap Reiplinger took "Rhinestone Cowboy" as a point of departure and here's the result: "Puka Shell Tour Guide" by Rap Reiplinger This big old bus is hot, my two front tires are shot Everybody's bugging me to make a stop at the Blow Hole They all look the same to me, wearing plastic leis, Bermudas and bony knees I got a tour group in from Nevada, I wouldn't be here unless I hadta I greet 'em, I "lei" 'em, I say: "Come follow me" I'm your Puka Shell tour guide and my name is "Kimo," I'll be showing you around the town I'm your information station, your all-star native clown, and your only way to get around I took 'em on a canoe ride, a fat lady fell off the side (chuckles), but everybody's yellin' at me 'cause they all got sun burned Their bags all weigh a ton, I'm bustin' my buns while they're havin' all the fun But I'm the man who keeps things going, Yes, I'm the man who keeps on showing that the spirit of Aloha is alive alive and well real swell I'm a Puka Shell tour guide, driving into the sunset with people I don't even know I'm a Puka Shell Tour guide, busing camera-toting tourists to the latest Polynesian show, and places I don't wanna go (Aloooha! "Alooha" Aloooha! "Alooha") Earlier, Rap took "Tell Laura I Love Her" and turned it into an off key surfer's lament/love song: "Fate Yanagi." (But that's another story...) Farin
I guess Weird Al Jankovic has some examples for that... and quite a few 60s and 70s German "Schlager" too also, the original meaning didn't stay as it was most times... eg "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" became "Am Tag als Conny Kramer starb" (The Day Conny Kramer died) - an anti-drug song... Edit: Video I forgot how schmalzy the lyrics were (PS double post ) Edited March 20, 2008 by Guest
Shawna
Bob Rivers does dozens of parodies of songs - nothing is sacred. Notably (for me): "Walkin' 'Round In Women's Underwear" (Winter Wonderland), and "Oops... I Farted Again" (Oops... I Did It Again).
blind-fitter
The Barron Knights had a big hit with a satire based on Boney M's "Rivers Of Babylon", beginning "There's A Dentist In Birmingham...". This is the bit I remember. "There's a dentist in Birmingham, he fixed my crown And while I slept, he filled my mouth with iron. He said 'Rinse out your mouth with the medication, Spit it out in the receptacle by your side, on the right' (Gurgle, spit) NO! The RIGHT! (Gurgle, spit)" Laugh? We very nearly did. blind-fitter
Dunno if this fits the bill, as I don't think it parodies one specific song...but, hey , some of you might find it amusing. (There's no accounting for taste. ) Link to a parodic song

Jim in Pa
I remember one that mocks Pink Floyd's The Wall. It was in two parts (just as on the album) "just another kick in the b*lls" and the same called kick in..........part two. The lyrics are way to rough for air play, and I wont post here either. look around ya may find it out there somewhere. I didnt bother.. (sorry) J PS. oh and by the way, "The Ruttles" ( a monty python gig) did a parody of several Beatles albums back in the 60's. Let it Be was called "Let It Rot", Abbey Road = "Shabby Road", Sgt peppers = "Sgt Peppers only darts club band" there may have been more, but I forget. Edit: just found alittle something on wicky about them, check it out............. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rutles and this may even be funnier.......... http://www.rutles.org/rstory.html Edited March 28, 2008 by Guest
