There was a group of us who lived in this forum starting about 20 years ago. As time marched on, we made a slow exodus out. Not because we didn’t love it, but life happens. We met back up on Facebook. Yes, we are old now. We just had a discussion about coming back home. I see our services are needed. I feel like we can come in, shake the dust off and bring life back into this wonderful place

Joe was a steadfast SF rock, always had a kind or funny word.  A gentle soul.  Although he refused to ever wear pants, that's one of the things we loved about him.  So sad, not to mention shocked, to hear of his passing.  He'll always be remembered as one of the Songfacts OGs, a true original. ❤️ 

We learned through his Facebook that Joe died today. His son posted a sad and warm text. I don't know if I should copy and paste or just let people say how much they loved him. I'll leave it up to you. My very first post in Songacts, was in 2004. My first answer was sweet UncleJoe's...  ❤️  ❤️

I think the song idea would be easier, so we can just listen to the posted links. I don't know much about the past year in new music.

She Will Be Loved - Maroon 5

One of the superb songs of this generation.

His tour came through my parts a few months ago. The next morning, I saw some young people in T-shirts from the show as I was getting my bagel. I asked them how it was, and they went on for quite a while about how amazing it was.
Artists like Springsteen and The Rolling Stones have plenty of young fans, but the older ones take all the oxygen. Petty was accessible, constantly moving forward while honoring the past in a way that didn't feel like nostalgia.
Here's what I posted on our Facebook page this morning. Almost hit send on it yesterday when the story first broke, but got the news that he was still on life support.
Petty wrote from personal experience, but made it our experience. "Refugee" is about feeling trapped, which is how his record company made him feel at the time; "American Girl" is about longing for something more out of life, with his hometown of Gainesville, Florida as the backdrop. After someone burned his house down in 1987, he wrote one of his most personal songs, "I Won't Back Down," which he thought was "too obvious" when he wrote it. What's obvious now is that it's a powerful and sincere anthem of resilience.
He was known for his integrity in standing up for the artists and fans against the corporate money grabbers. When his label, MCA, tried to make Hard Promises the first major album priced at $9.98 (going rate was $8.98), Petty dug in his heels, threatening to name the album "$8.98" if they tried.
Tom Petty used his powers for good. He hosted a fantastic show on Sirius/XM called "Tom Petty's Buried Treasure," which he curated with hidden gems, making for some very satisfying discovery in a way no algorithm could.
He championed the human element in music, which is especially acute in his 2002 song "The Last DJ." Released at a time when corporate radio was shushing local voices so they could save money by piping the same transmission to multiple stations, the song made it clear to those voices (this writer included) that someone still cared.
His music videos were groundbreaking, and they still hold up. Often surreal ("Don't Come Around Here No More") and always entertaining, they earned him an MTV Video Vanguard Award in 1994. Many of his videos started with him opening a book to reveal the story.
He and the Heartbreakers recently wrapped up their 40th (!) anniversary tour. It was triumphant, with an audience that crossed generations, united by the music. Millennials aren't all into EDM and the squiggly sounds of today's hits - many love classic rock. Petty was one the last really accessible rockers on the top tier. You'll see many young people with T-shirts from that tour because they could afford to go with money left over for the merch tent.
Petty had both personal genius and the ability to find and nurture top talent. The Heartbreakers are an incredible band, with two members, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, around from the start (actually, even earlier - they with Petty in Mudcrutch). When Petty was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, it was with his band.
Outside of the Heartbreakers, Petty also collaborated with the best and brightest. Along with Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and George Harrison, he was in the Traveling Wilburys. Dave Stewart of Eurythmics co-wrote "Don't Come Around Here No More"; Stevie Nicks wanted to BE a Heartbreaker. Expect a deluge of well-deserved tributes.

Thanks, Kenne. So... we still only have 6 it looks like, so far. I'll set something up now that the weekend is here and I have the time. We can discuss whether or not we want to proceed in the meantime. When exactly does the season start- first game- because we need to be decided and drafted before that point for sure. Anyone know offhand? I hate missing the first week if it isn't necessary.

The problem with ESPN is the auto draft (if you use that), in one league it gave me 2 kickers with the same BYE and only one QB, in the last round. I'm known to take a great QB with my first pick, so that really didn't go over well for me.

The Who kicked off the North American portion of its 50th anniversary tour tonight in Tampa, Florida. The British rock legends actually have two separate stateside legs scheduled for this year, with the first winding down May 30 in Forest Hills, New York, and the second running from a September 14 concert in San Diego through a November 4 show in Philadelphia.
The trek, which has been dubbed The Who Hits 50! tour, is being viewed by some as “a nostalgia trip,” with the band looking back at its long history by playing a bevy of its classic songs, as well as a few select rarities. At a recent press event, The Who’s two surviving founding members, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend, had slightly differing views on how to characterize the tour.
Daltrey agreed that the trek was “a nostalgia trip,” noting that when the band’s plays its old songs, it brings fans “back to the time when [they] first heard them.” He added, “I kind of accept all that now, and I’m very happy with the fact that we’ve been around this long, and can still do it and still do it well.”
As for Townshend, he said he views the outing more as a multigenerational celebration, and not just simply a commemoration of the group hitting the half-century mark.
Explained Pete, “It’s a celebration of the fact that when people gather together to be in the company of a band and their music, they’re celebrating not only their own experience but, you know, sometimes too this will be a grandfather who brings his son and his son’s wife and their children.”
Townshend also maintained that he finds it “very poignant” that he and Daltrey are still performing together after so many years, while adding with a laugh, “On the other hand, it’s also a bit sad…You would have thought we’d find something better to do by now.”
Speaking about what kind of set list fans can expect from the concerts, Daltrey noted, “We’re not gonna get away with not playing ‘Baba O’Riley.’ We’re not gonna get away without playing ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ and those ones. But it will be nice to do songs that we haven’t done.” Townshend added that tour will give them “the chance maybe to do a few things that are a bit different or a bit new, or we shall see.”
Since The Who launched its 50th anniversary tour with a U.K. leg last November, the shows have indeed included some relatively obscure songs, such as the mini opera “A Quick One (While He’s Away),” “Slip Kid,” “So Sad About Us,” “The Seeker” and “Pictures of Lily.” American fans also likely will be treated to a few interesting gems.
Both Daltrey and Townshend have insisted that The Who Hits 50! Tour will be the last major trek the band will do, although no final show has been scheduled yet.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are serving as the opening act for nearly all of The Who’s 2015 North American concerts. Here’s a full list of the band’s stateside dates:
