  1. I can see the Something Corporate. Admittedly, all I've heard from Fountains of Wayne is Stacey's Mom. I'll trust you on that one. 3eb however, I've heard a lot from, and yes they have good arrangements, and they're talented, but I just don't see the classic touch. What sort of bands do they remind you of? I've always thought of them as solid late-ninties pop-rock, which I never really connected with the classic rock era.
  2. No, I mean the song that's like 8 minutes long and it's a story told over music about this guy who's girlfriend moves away for the summer, so he mails himself to her, long story short they can't open the box and it's a bloody mess. It's on White Light/ White Heat.
  3. Elmore James Son House John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers I'd mention Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, and Jimmy Page, but they've already been mentioned.
  4. My roommate just started listening to Primus, and they have a song called "Detachable Penis" and it immediatly made me think of Velvet Underground's "The Gift". Whenever I listen to newer music I try to pick out Zepp and VU influences, unless something else jumps out at me.
  5. These are the bands I feel comfortable talking about. Floyd I agree with the list completly. Zepp I'd have to make some changes, III, II, I, Physical Graffiti. Beatles, I agree with the list but I'd switch Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's. PS: I can't get enough of this Music Discussion Classic thread, instant favorite.
  6. I don't really listen to any of the solo stuff, but based on listening to the Beatles as a band, I'd agree that they all brought something different to the band. It seems to me that John was more difficult to work with (not like I was there or anything); how he openly spoke against some of Paul's songs, restricted George to only 2 songs per album, went so far as to suggest replacing George with Eric (Clapton)... But then he was also the rock n' roll of the group. I can't decide, but if I had to, at this point, I'd have to go with Paul.
  7. Third Eye Blind, Fountains of Wayne, Something Corporate? I must not be on the same wavelength, care to explain? I'd say Jet, The Strokes, and the White Stripes.
  8. Boy Named Sue (Johnny Cash) Rocky Raccoon (The Beatles) Hot Rod Lincoln (Bill Kirchen) Piano Man (Billy Joel) Hurricane (Bob Dylan) Tangled Up In Blue (Bob Dylan) Turn The Page (Bob Seger) Life In The Fast Lane (The Eagles) Lola (The Kinks) Well Respected Man (The Kinks) Gallow's Pole (Led Zeppelin) Going to California (Led Zeppelin) Take the Money and Run (Steve Miller Band) The Gift (Velvet Underground)
  9. Led Zeppelin's self titled DVD is amazing, and Eric Clapton's Unplugged DVD is great too.
  10. go here and find in page: "Piano arr. pour guitare" and you'll get a nice tablature/ chord progression for guitar.
  11. article on the murder, in case anyone wants more information.
  12. You've a Mac too? Nice. Yeah, I don't see the underlines either, but I sure am curious.
  13. Led Zeppelin 1. LZ III 2. LZ II 3. Physical Graffitti The Beatles 1. White Album 2. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 3. Abbey Road Pink Floyd 1. Dark Side of The Moon 2. Wish You Were Here 3. The Wall I listen to a lot of live albums, but since those count as compilations I can't really list them.
  14. Wow, this thread filled up with fans pretty quick...I'm surprised they haven't come up before. Edna, you're right about the albums, and this is the part that confuses me. For their first album, Crosby Stills & Nash, they're obviously CSN. For Deja Vu, since Helpless is assuredly Neil Young, they're automatically CSN&Y? And that carries forth through 4 Way Street as well? A bit of trivia, Jimi Hendrix taugh Stephen Stills to play lead guitar. Artistfacts The reason I started listening to them is because I heard Stephen Still's Treetop Flyer on a classic rock station, and it blew my mind. I like all the songs mentioned, but I'd also like to add the song Black Queen.
  15. I've seen Yngwie perform live as well, I didn't think he was that bad. He looked a bit immature next to Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, but that doesn't discount his abilities as a classical shred-guitarist. Anyway, I thought you might be interested to see what guitars these boys play on. [*]Zakk Wylde [*]Joe Perry [*]Tony Iommi [*]Yngwie
  16. I'm going to try to post this again, I accidentally posted while we were visiting 1970... I recently got into CSN&Y, I got their first three albums. Let's discuss them! I want to know who they're influenced by, who they influenced, who their contemporaries are, their famous works, anything. This post was more articulate the first time around, but you get the idea.
  17. I'm in a newly created band called Shrimp Stampede with Lester, Jr. (We don't have anyone named Lester, Jr.)
  18. Jimmy Page could still do it. JPJ could still do it. Robert Plant can NOT still do it. Neil Pert is a great drummer, but I don't think the reason Bonham was perfect for Zeppelin was because of how technically proficient he was, it was because of the chemistry. And when you go see a concert, you don't go for a live regurgitation of your favorite songs, you go to watch the chemistry. So like I said before, as huge of a Zeppelin fan as I am, I wouldn't like to see them in concert in 2005. Now if we could go back in time to 1970, count me in. :guitar:
  19. Haha this is the thread for me. I LOVE Clapton and I LOVE Zeppelin. Cream, Yardbirds, and don't forget Derek & The Dominos, or John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers featuring Eric Clapton. If you want to get into Clapton, pick up these albums and you shan't be disappointed: The Cream of Clapton D & the D Live at the Filmore Rainbow Concert 24 Nights Unplugged Slowhand and if you like Robert Johnson, pick up Me & Mr. Johnson, but I can't promise you won't be disappointed by it. Have Fun!
  20. Hi all, Did Bjork ever cover "Leavin on a Jet Plane"? I can't figure out if this is her or not.
  21. Yeah... every year if you look hard enough, you'll find a possible Zeppelin reunion in the summertime, but I'm pretty sure this isn't going to happen. Plant's voice is completly shot (I hated the new Unledded DVD), Bonzo's dead (RIP), JPJ hasn't worked with anyone in forever... There has always been talk of replacing Bonham with his son, but he's just not good enough. If they did somehow miraculously tour, could you bear to watch Plant struggle to sing an octave below the notes he used to hit? Could you picture Led Zeppelin without Bonzo? I couldn't, nor would I want to.
  22. I may incite some anger amoung the Pink Floyd fans for this one, but the alarm clock in Time really freaks me out, because I usually listen to Dark Side very late at night, because it gives me cool dreams when I fall asleep to it. Other than that alarm clock, the album is great to listen to late at night. Like now...
  23. Maybe it's just me, but I'd put some Led Zeppelin on there, Dazed and Confused from How The West Was Won is 25 minutes long, but trust me, it's going to be a good 25 minutes!
  24. haha, I can see how you would be embarrassed to know that, I was embarrassed to ask. Yeah, that was it.
