    warren g - regulate

Warren G is Dr. Dre's cousin. The same whistling hook can be found in the De La Soul song, Keepin' The Faith.

    Who Would You Be?

this topic got really weird... i'm surprised nobody else picked Robert Johnson, that's easily who I would want to be for a day.

    Slide Guitar

You should watch the 1986 movie Crossroads, the guitar duel at the end between Steve Vai and Ry Cooder is amazing.

Which Acoustic to buy for Blues?

Hummingbirds are amazing but they're also like five grand... I just can't wait to go pick up my Martin. Do you all have a specific size acoustic that you like to play on? For me I can't seem to get into any other size than dreadnaught, probably because my first acoustic was a dreadnaught and I'm finally replacing it with another.

    Zeppelin Phase

This topic really interests me because I am just weaning myself off of my Zeppelin phase lately. I have been playing guitar for about five years this winter and I feel like I've learned all I can from the supreme tutelage of Jimmy Page, and I am ready to move on. I have started listening to more Buddy Guy, BB King, and of course Robert Johnson. But I will always have a special place in my heart (and on my wall) for Led Zeppelin.

    I bought that....more than once

I have about 4 copies of Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits 1974-78. Three on CD and one on tape... I have two or three copies of The Doors Greatest Hits, one on tape and two on CD.

Which Acoustic to buy for Blues?

Hey guys, thanks for all the help... I went to the guitar store today, after scheming all night to come up with attributes that I wanted in the acoustic guitar. When I showed them to the salesperson (also, luckily, the guitar appraiser), he thought for a moment, and went back and grabbed a beautiful Martin DCX1E. It was like having my list jump off the page and come to life. There is an ebony fretboard and he said the headstock is stable for different tunings as long as I'm careful. Plus, it's a Martin! I have heard that if you play acoustic guitar and you play on a Martin, you're automatically 10% better.
  8. Hi all, I am currently the proud owner of four guitars. I have a 1964 Harmony electric, with brand new guts, an 2002 Ibanez Classical Acoustic-Electric with cutaway, a 2000 Fender Dreadnought Acoustic, and a 199x Epiphone Les Paul Special with an EMG treble pickup and tune-locking machine heads. If I had to put a dollar value on all of them combined, I would say somewhere between $600 and $750. I am willing to part with ALL of them to trade them in for an acoustic. I am looking to play fingerstyle, slide blues, so I need something that will be able to play different tunings on a whim and not cause any damage to the headstock. The influences to buy this acoustic rest in Robert Johnson, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and last but not least Buddy Guy. I have found comfort only in dreadnaught shaped acoustics, but what brand name should I look at to play the blues? Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

Rock n' Roll has run its course

Thank you earth-angel, for not getting too mad at me I guess in my rush to defend rock and roll I hurried through your first post. The second post cleared up the fact that we are both on the same boat.

Rock n' Roll has run its course

Speaking as a kid (I'm 20), who listens to Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Eric Clapton: I take offense to the idea that you think that kids are too busy with technology to be creative. I go to college and I find the time to play guitar or bass about three hours a day. For those who it's important to, there is always time to be creative. Rock is not dead, I think that is not giving new artists enough credit. But here's the thing, music that has survived for 40+ years and is still in regular rotation on classic rock stations would be the cream of the crop, less popular stuff has faded away over time. When you listen to new rock, it is all of it, including the songs/ artists that will fade with time. So, take a look back in 2025 and see what artists will make it over time. My picks for new rock: White Stripes, Rage Against the Machine (too political? when has that ever been a problem?), and Nine Inch Nails.

If you were to have a laser show...

Nine Inch Nails - Only, huh? I would have gone with "All the Love in the World" but Only is definitely my favorite track on that new album. Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride, I can't even begin to tell you guys how much I despise this song. I was in Ohio for the summer and the classic rock stations played this song as if it was an advertisement. I can't stand to listen to it anymore. This is a cool list though, I appreciate the input.
  12. What songs would you want to include? Some examples: 3 Dog Night - One Is the Lonliest Number Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love Pink Floyd - On the Run (from DSoTM) The Beatles - I Am The Walrus

    advanced fingerpicking

I just rememberd another one tonight - Led Zeppelin - Bron-y-aur Tab The cool thing about this tune is that it sounds more difficult than it really is. It's mainly tricky because the tuning is a bit funky, CACGCE, but once you get used to the tuning you can play a couple other Page compositions as well, Friends (from III) and Poor Tom (from Coda). In case anyone wants to know a simple way to get to this tuning without a chromatic tuner, just tune low E's 9th fret to your A, A's 3rd fret is your next C, and then use your G's 5th fret as your third and final C.
  14. I only know this song as performed by George Thorogood & The Destroyers. Is that the original artist? Are there any special covers of this song? For some reason I really like it, the slide guitar work is great.

    Who Plays/Played This Guitar??

I can't think of the Woodstock Guitar, but I think this is a good one.
