  1. What About Bob Seger? Bob Seger follows his phychologist on vacation and wins over his family with Night Moves.
  2. If I was making a Christmas CD, I'd have Father Christmas - The Kinks, although it's a far cry from Mariah Carey.
  3. Life shouldn't seem to be scarier than it was ten or twenty years ago, at least not in the U.S. Actually, the homicide rate has declined to levels last seen in the in the late 60's. But then again, seeing Michael Moore's face is pretty damn scary ::.
  4. Really!? So if you're a siamese twin, your twin can kill somebody without being prosecuted? That would be kind of freaky! I saw that "most scary moments" ... or whatever, on AMC. The scene with the torso guy sold me, with him slithering and crawling, and the knife in his mouth! You could never make a movie like that today.
  5. A Night at the Opera, All Quiet on the Western Front, Dark Side of Oz, ah. These are the only movies I've seen from the 1930's. My folks have Gone with the Wind, but it looks really long. Some films I'd like to see - Freaks (I watch AMC), The original Scarface, Duck Soup.
  6. I like the Princess Bride ... or whatever is on. "Why do you wear a mask? Were you scared with acid or something like that?"
  7. I take it back. Best film - Total Recall.
  8. Comedy - The Truman Show Crime - Fargo/L.A. Confidential(tie) Western - Unforgiven Action - Terminator 2 Horror - Silence of the Lambs Best Film - Forrest Gump
  9. Three sadly often overlooked promising musicians whose lives were taken before their time. RIP. Brad Nowell of Sublime. Died of heroin overdose at age 28. Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon. Died of drug overdose at age 28. D. Boon of the Minutemen. Died in automobile accident at age 27.
  10. What's the greatest "musician's life story gone movie"? I read this article: http://movies.msn.com/movies/musicalbiopics Actually I like this guy's list . It's not bad, even though I haven't seen most of the movies he listed. I liked The Doors, one of the only times Val Kilmer gave an above-par performance IMO.
  11. I've been listen to Floyd for some time, and after a while you kind of get used to a song. And when you hear somebody else do an "original" cover of it, you find it hard to take their version serious. But you know SS's version is not supposed to be taken serious (with the Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Bee Gees references in there); actually they take the song completely out of context. Ya, it was amusing and kind of funny at first. Then I heard it again, and halfway through I got sort of irritated. The next time it just seemed obnoxious. Their other song is better.
  12. Braveheart is basically a war movie. I also like Glory and Thin Red Line.
  13. Are there any fans of The Clarks here? If you haven't heard of them, check them out http://www.clarksonline.com/. They have song samples from their recent album there . If you like classic rock, then this is probably the closest you'll come as far as bands today.
  14. Speaking of Warren Zevon, has anyone heard "Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)"? Great Song . David Letterman is the shite.
  15. I read a mediocre review of the new album a couple of days ago in our local newspaper. From what I remember, praise was given to Dylan Jr. and Co. for their rendition of "Lawyers, Guns, and Money", and to "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me". Flops included "Mutineer", performed by Dylan Sr., and whoever covered "Keep Me In Your Heart", which lost all sentiment felt in the original version.
  16. "Somebody To Shove" - Soul Asylum "Got You Where I Want You" - The Flys
  17. How about Better Off Without You - The Clarks You are sultry, dirty, soft and hard You are close to me but you're so far And I'm thinking of the time we spent together Now I'll bury this in my backyard Sometimes I sit and wonder But I'll never dial your number 'Cause I'm having fun looking out for number one And I'm doing all the things I like to do I'm having fun cause I knew it all along I'd be better off without you You are guilty, pretty, high and low You're a place to stay and a time to go And I'm searching through the things you left behind here Now it's time for me to let it go Sometimes I sit and wonder But I'll never dial that number 'Cause I'm having fun looking out for number one And I'm doin all the things I like to do I'm having fun 'cause I knew it all along I'd be better off without you Late at night you pick up the telephone Call me up and cry 'cause you're all alone I don't care Apologize for taking my cigarettes Now it's time to feel all the side effects Missing the life you had
  18. It seems a lot of people here are really sad , looking at the number of songs they list. A couple of songs I'll listen to when I'm feeling a bit melancholy include New York's Not My Home - Jim Croce and Keep Me In Your Heart - Warren Zevon
  19. One of the first riffs I learned on guitar :guitar:. My favorite version is Nugent's live version. It's worth a listen. You might have heard the Amboy Dukes version (Nugent's first band).
  20. I remember the word "s***" is said somewhere in the Velvet Underground song, The Gift (1967), although it isn't really a famous song. I think the VU were so ahead of their time that they are still under appreciated by the mainstream. Maybe the first famous song to have a blatant curse word was KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHERF***** (1969 MC5).
  21. They're extremely funny. I'll add anything by Frank Zappa and The Butthole Surfers. And I can't help but laugh when I hear Hall & Oates Has anyone heard the song 88 Lines About 44 Women? I listened to it for the first time yesterday and it made me laugh.
  22. A simple answer: Jimi Hendrix IS the greatest, an inrrefutable fact. If you need reassurance, then listen to Machine Gun on the Band of Gypys album. He is a major influence on every guitarist that came after him, directly or indirectly. His powerful, astonishing rendtion of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock is breathtaking, completely putting ANY guitar player to shame. He gave passion for music a new meaning. He became famous simply because of his talented, skillful, and ingenious mastery of the instument and deserves every ounce of respect given. Anyone who doesn't recognize this is ignorant.
  23. I think it's fine that some of these entertainers (I won't call Jessica Simpson a musician) encourage people to vote, but if they want to preach their political views, then write a freakin' song about it. Of course, everybody knows none of these people can make a difference in the world. I don't think any of these undecided voters (there's not many of them out there) are going to swing towards Kerry or Bush just because the Boss, Boss-wanna-be, or some other celeb told them to. Politics and music don't mix. If they really want to make a difference, quit the music biz and get a respectable career in politics . Oh, and if anybody can afford to go to this concert, they must be a republican. I never understood that about the Boss. He claims to be the common blue-collar working man, and the common blue-collar working man can't afford to go to his concerts!
