  1. The local classic rock stations would have you believe that Simon & Garfunkel's only two songs were "Mrs. Robinson" & "The Boxer".
  2. Saw them live. One of my first concerts ever. They were playing at the college my sister was attending and she brought me along. Their classic hit "Hocus Pocus" burns it up....not to mention "yodeling"!
  3. Slash Keeps Rocking For The Money Former Guns N' Roses rocker Slash needed to hit the road again with new band Velvet Revolver, because he didn't make enough money from his time with the rock legends to last him into retirement. The guitarist has denied reports he formed Velvet Revolver with ex-Guns N' Roses band mates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum purely for fun, claiming each "self-sabotaging" member was left close to broke at the end of their spell in the "November Rain" band. And Slash admits their ability to squander their wealth forced them into forming a new band. The rock icon - who vows to handle his finances with more care in future - says, "People don't realize the technicalities of the rise and fall of Guns N' Roses. Obviously I have a house and a car and a wife and kids, but it's still a matter of keeping your s**t together to be able to do this." "It's kind of a long story. Not a depressing story, but we're all a bunch of f**king very reckless, self-sabotaging guys. Having been through all the s**t that I've been through, I'm a lot smarter now than I have been." "You'd have to be stupid to make the same f**king mistakes eight times!"
  4. Because of George's position in The Beatle's hierarchy, he was limited to 2 or so songs per album. If the Beatles had lasted beyond 1970 as a recording group, many of the songs from "All Things Must Pass" may never have seen the light of day. Some of the songs would have become Beatles songs, others would have been releases years later if at all. The Beatles turmoil helped release George's restraints and all of his wonderful solo music.
  5. I have a friend who would play the entire Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" 8 Track when he wanted to score. He would loop it around the 8 track in endless cycles until it had the needed effect..whatever that effect might be. Nothing like hearing those tracks click into gear right in the middle of a song.
  6. Something, Think For Yourself, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes The Sun, Savoy Truffle, Blue Jay Way, phew...that's the tip of the iceberg...Thanks George!
  7. Artist: Van Halen Album: 1984 Title: I'll Wait You've got me captured, i'm under your spell. I guess i'll never learn. I have your picture, yes i know it well. Another page is turned. Are you for real ? it's so hard to tell, From just a magazine. Yeah, you just smile and the picture sells, Look what that does to me. Chorus: I'll wait till your love comes down. I'm coming straight for your heart. No way you can stop me now, As fine as you are. I wrote a letter and told her these words, That meant a lot to me. I never sent it, she wouldn't have heard, Her eyes don't follow me. And while she watches i can never be free, Such good photography ! Chorus (guitar solo) You can't imagine what your image means. The pages come alive. Your magic greets everyone who reads. Heart-break in overdrive Are you for real, it's so hard to tell, From just a magazine. Yeah, you just smile and the picture sells, Look what that does to me. Chorus
  8. Tom Petty Lyrics Runnin' Down A Dream Lyrics It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down I had the radio on, I was drivin' The trees went by, me and Del were singin' Little Runaway, I was flyin' Tom Petty loved Del!
  9. I love "Ambulance Blues" off that album...wonderful.
  10. Bowie - Lady Stardust is about Lou Reed. Neil Young - Tonight's the Night is about Bruce Berry a roadie and friend. Queen - Drowse is a stretch, but it is supposedly about Ian Anderson to some degree. Beatles - Eleanor Rigby , see the grave site in England. Bowie - Song For Bob Dylan - duh! Bowie - The Bewlay Brothers - about Mick Ronson. Iggy Pop - the Dum Dum Boys is about The Stooges (not the 3 stooges either) p.s. Bowie plays keyboards on this one.
  11. Lady Grinning Soul by Bowie..can't miss! :happybanana:
  12. The Four Seasons covered Dylan's "Don't Think Twice" under the name of Guess Who. (Not THE Guess Who!!). It was a novelty record of sorts. My sister read Tiger Beat and 16 back in the mid 60's. One of those mags had a contest..Guess who the mystery band was. The mag actually had a plastic record in that issue of a band called Guess Who. It was obviously Frankie Valli and The four Seasons.
  13. I always thought the ultimate one hit wonder was "In the Year 2525" by Zager and Evans. :beady:
  14. Some added information about LZ and The Lemon Song The Lemon Song "The Lemon Song" quotes blues greats Robert Johnson and Howlin' Wolf. Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" provides the basic theme of the song, and to that Robert Plant adds Robert Johnson's lemon phallic reference from "Traveling Riverside Blues" ("Squeeze my lemon 'til the juice run down my leg"). John Mendelsohn took exception to this in his review of Led Zeppelin II in Rolling Stone in 1969. Mendelsohn's sarcastic negative review of the album reveals a lot about why Led Zeppelin acquired such a bad reputation with the rock press, particularly with regard to the issue of plagiarism. To Mendelsohn, Led Zeppelin's heavy interpretation of the blues was a bastardization of a vaunted form. That Robert Plant's lyrics would quote so freely from the original sources while the instrumental parts had lost the essence of the original was grounds for ridicule to Mendelsohn. (Plant later stated that he thought that Mendelsohn "was just a frustrated musician. Maybe I'm just flying on my own little ego ship, but sometimes people seem to resent talent."[1]) The recent special edition of Q is kinder to Led Zeppelin about "The Lemon Song" stating, "'Forgetting' to credit [Howlin' Wolf] almost landed Zeppelin in court, but in truth the electrifying combination of Bonham's sledgehammer drums and Page's dazzling solo makes it entirely their own." [2] In 1972, ARC music sued Led Zeppelin, claiming that Led Zeppelin had plagiarized Howlin' Wolf and a settlement was reached out of court.[3]
  15. One more simple thing that can't hurt anything. Go to Tools, then internet options, click "delete cookies" then "delete files" then "clear history". It has worked for me in the past.
  16. Bachman Turner Overweight, er, I mean Overdrive are Candians and I like them alot! I also really enjoyed my last stay in Toronto...that hotel that is part of the Skydome is awesome!! Pointing to The Great White North.
  17. or...She Said, She Said - the Beatles.
  18. I Want To Be Your Dog - Iggy Pop and the Stooges. Beautiful :happybanana:
  19. Read the book, Beyond The Great Divide. It's a biography of "The Band" and it highlights much of what their music is about.
  20. I need to combine a few comments here, but I have a Neil Young bootleg where he does an Unreleased song (I think) called "Sweet Joni From Saskatoon". It is an absolutely wonderful song....and Joni is wonderful too!
  21. If you extend it east, part of New Jersey is south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
  22. They had a second really good song called "metal Head". A really good effort.
  23. Quicksand - Bowie I'm closer to the Golden Dawn Immersed in Crowley's uniform Of imagery I'm living in a silent film Portraying Himmler's sacred realm Of dream reality I'm frightened by the total goal Drawing to the ragged hole And I ain't got the power anymore No I ain't got the power anymore I'm the twisted name on Garbo's eyes Living proof of Churchill's lies I'm destiny I'm torn between the light and dark Where others see their targets Divine symmetry Should I kiss the viper's fang Or herald loud the death of Man I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought And I ain't got the power anymore Don't believe in yourself Don't deceive with belief Knowledge comes with death's release I'm not a prophet or a stone age man Just a mortal with the potential of a superman I'm living on I'm tethered to the logic of Homo Sapien Can't take my eyes from the great salvation Of bullshit faith If I don't explain what you ought to know You can tell me all about it On the next Bardo I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought And I ain't got the power anymore Don't believe in yourself Don't deceive with belief Knowledge comes with death's release This may or may not have anything to do with the conversation...Crowley made me think of it.
