Floydaholic
I wanna make a sort of uplifting Cd, along the lines of Everybody Hurts by R.E.M, and Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of by U2. Do you think that you could help me out??. Thanks. Edited June 6, 2007 by Guest Can't edit further in the future.

Floydaholic
Uplifting??? Man, I've nearly shot myself already. Well, maybe uplifting is the wrong word for you. But to me, those songs show me that when I get down, people do actually understand, and there is a way out. Those are the types of songs that I would like for this Cd. edna
Try some Leonard Cohen... "Goodbye Curel World" - James Darren "I will survive" - Gloria Gaynor (not the same style but it works) "You got your troubles I got mine" - The Fortunes
blind-fitter
Ok, I've got my serious hat on now, (not my facetious one). Two of the most "uplifting" songs I've heard in recent times were both by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: namely "Nature Boy" and "There She Goes, My Beautiful World". Worth checking out, if you're not already familiar.

johnnyguitar
Well, I do find the odd, more maudlin tune a tad uplifting from time to time...but not that bollocks you were mentioning...I'd rather throw myself off a bridge than have Bono tell me how to shape up. Me, I'd probably reach for Mrs. Potters Lullaby (Counting Crows)or, He Thinks He'll Keep Her (Mary Chapin Carpenter)...uplifting tunes...miserable lyrics. Is that what you're after? SoulGirl
the song i suggested is from their debut album 'parachutes' so it's a lot less mopey! seriously, it's a good one!

blind-fitter
If somebody gifted me an "uplifting" CD compilation beginning with REM, U2, Coldplay and Travis, I'd honestly have a hard job deciding who to shoot first...
blind-fitter
Serious suggestion, now. "The Story Of The Blues" - by The Mighty Wah! is as uplifting a pop tune as I have in my mighty repertwah.

miamisammy29
I always thought this one was pretty cool....not as cool as "Two Pigs F***ing", of course...but cool in its own Sesame Street-type of way. It's by Cat Stevens and it's called "If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out"... "Well if you want to sing out, sing out And if you want to be free, be free 'Cause there's a million things to be You know that there are And if you want to live high, live high And if you want to live low, live low 'Cause there's a million ways to go You know that there are You can do what you want The opportunity's on And if you find a new way You can do it today You can make it all true And you can make it undo You see, ah ah ah It's easy, ah ah ah You only need to know Well if you want to say yes, say yes And if you want to say no, say no 'Cause there's a million ways to go You know that there are And if you want to be me, be me And if you want to be you, be you 'Cause there's a million things to do You know that there are You can do what you want The opportunity's on And if you find a new way You can do it today You can make it all true And you can make it undo You see, ah ah ah It's easy, ah ah ah You only need to know Well if you want to sing out, sing out And if you want to be free, be free 'Cause there's a million things to be You know that there are You know that there are You know that there are"
Ombre Vivante
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" - Joy Division "I Hate Myself And I Want To Die" - Nirvana "Suffer Little Children" - The Smiths "My Life Is a Mediocre Piece Of S**t" - Alice Donut etc.etc. These songs are waaay too uplifting. You need to recommend stuff along the lines of "Lovely Day" by Front 242 "A Strange Day" by The Cure "Killing An Arab" by The Cure "Ghosts" by Japan "The Damned Don't Cry" by Visage "Blasphemous Rumours" by Depeche Mode "The Drowning" by Christian Death "Golden Wedding Of Sorrow" by Death In June "Failure" by The Swans "Pity For The Self" by Poesie Noire "Walking On Sunshine" by [Hurricane] Katrina And The Waves It's gotta be stuff that's so uplifting you'll be able to take giant leaps off bridges and buildings
