Rayzor
Although it remains as their biggest hit, this song was actually thought up and co-written by one of the members before the band was formed. I'm sure Elvis Costello had bigger hits... Clue:

Rayzor
Let's go over everything again (you're all making this harder than it really is). 1. Bands biggest hit to date 2. Written before the band was formed 3. Inspired by former bandmate 4. Chelsea 5. The drummer means something 6. Probably a rock group or song Just so you all know... it's the song I need but naming the band would give it away.

Rayzor
There is (was) a band called "Chelsea"? that was probably the million dollar question, huh? Yeah, didn't want to give away too much... if I had mentioned Kiss in the answer that would have made it too easy (just look for Kiss' hottest tune on Billboard...) but mentioning NO band made it too hard, so I used the band Criss was with when he first wrote the song (called 'Beck' for bandmate Strand's wife Becky). At some point the title was changed to "Beth" although I'm not sure why. Peter Criss' wife isn't named Beth. But Peter still sings it with his own wife in mind.
