edna Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 ...that one was tough... OK, let me think and I'll post
edna Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 This very famous song by a very famous UK band was credited "Traditional" until 1990, when the performers had to give credits to the real composer.
edna Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 So those who have the original vinyl will read "Trad. etc..." and those who bought the cd after 1990 will read "??/XX/xx" British band who became more popular than the Beatles in 1969. Even President Carter's children said they prefered XX rather than The Beatles. Joan Baez sung the song in the early 60s. Two of the original members are dead.
edna Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Zep, yes... But not this one. I know that happened to more than one song...
edna Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 No. I nominated it not long ago. One of my fave LZ songs. Google knows...
Rayzor Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 What is "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" (the LZ hint gave it away for me... I didn't know they credited anyone for it.)
edna Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 (edited) Right you are, Ray... Led Zeppelin version The band was inspired to cover the song after hearing Baez's version. Both guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant were fans of Baez. Baez's original album had indicated no writing credit, and Led Zeppelin credited the song as "Trad. arr. Page". In the 1980s, Bredon was made aware of Led Zeppelin's version of the song. Since 1990 the Led Zeppelin version has been credited to Anne Bredon/Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, and Bredon received a substantial back-payment in royalties Edited November 7, 2012 by Guest
Rayzor Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 Okay... this one might be easy. Then again there may be more than one correct answer This artist had 33 top 40 hits spanning 3 decades all of which he wrote himself.
Rayzor Posted November 7, 2012 Author Report Posted November 7, 2012 Yeah.. Wow, that was really easy! You're up Bradmeister!
Brad_M Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 The name of this hard-rock band from England, active in the early 00's, was inspired by an infamous and bizarre cult classic movie from the late 70's.
Brad_M Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Maybe I should have been more specific. Mostly active in early 00's (since they formed in 1999) and split up by mid 00's.
Brad_M Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 That is correct, Edna. The band's name was inspired by David Lynch's 1977 movie Eraserhead.
edna Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 The 1999 Ozzfest was the big clue. I'll post mine tomorrow. nitenite.
