Levis Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I go along with the improper use of of. However, dear lad, you may want to check your eyes, math and English regarding the ellipsis . . . Superfluous . . .? Who isn't at Tymes? You are, though! Ya are, Blanche, Ya are!!! Are you trying to distract people from your error? 'cos as I see it... B-F's right - there's no need for two commas or a question mark there.
edna Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 Where´s Old55? I know he´s not around very much but anyways, he hasn´t been in the Top lately...
skybluesky Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 He went to his daughter's wedding, I believe.

Superfluous . . .? Who isn't at Tymes? You are, though! Ya are, Blanche, Ya are!!! "I was [sUPERFLUOUS COMMA] sitting here wondering [sUPERFLUOUS COMMA] what (da-di-da-di-da) happened to Sweet Jane [sUPERFLUOUS QUESTION MARK]" Superfluous means "surplus to requirements". Neither of the two commas* has any cause to be there. (* Count'em, if you don't believe me. ) Furthermore, your sentence is a STATEMENT, NOT A QUESTION. Therefore, the question mark is also surplus to requirements.
MuzikTyme Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 "I was [sUPERFLUOUS COMMA] sitting here wondering [sUPERFLUOUS COMMA] what (da-di-da-di-da) happened to Sweet Jane [sUPERFLUOUS QUESTION MARK]" Superfluous means "surplus to requirements". Therefore, the question mark is also surplus to requirements. Finally! I've grasped the reasoning behind the first part of your screen-name! Most fitting.
blind-fitter Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 There's only one of us mistaken in this instance, and it sure isn't me.
Steel2Velvet Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 A trait not uncommon to most of us, at times.
MuzikTyme Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 You're just too chicken to admit you're wrong Yeah, I'm shaking in my little elf boots. BTW, what am I wrong about that I haven't already admitted to?
Levis Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 ^^up there? Anyway I'll stop bugging you about it now
MuzikTyme Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 Thanks. I'll refrain from naming you beetle.
MuzikTyme Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 Attitude is everything. Back on track: Whatever became of Denmark Street?
Shawna Posted May 10, 2008 Author Report Posted May 10, 2008 Back on track: Whatever became of Denmark Street? Is that what track this thread is on? Oh so many things are confusing me today.
MuzikTyme Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 Have you seen Denmark Street, then? He was here a bit before all the whipper-snappers as of late. Sad. I miss the old pisser.
Shawna Posted May 10, 2008 Author Report Posted May 10, 2008 Denmark Street is a SF member? I thought you were referring to a geographical location. Honest to God.
Lea Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 I can't find the post now but as I recall Sweet Jane left because of the bickering that went on in the Creative Writing thread sometime back. She was really upset and said she was leaving but I think some people were so irritated at each other maybe they didn't see what she posted. I just kinda stumbled across it but can't find it now. I miss her to
TheLizard Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 I've heard from her a few times since she decided to leave. I've tried to persuade her, but I doubt she'll return to the forums.
edna Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 Denmark Street is a very nice guy... I´d like to see him back here...
blind-fitter Posted May 10, 2008 Report Posted May 10, 2008 Ignorance is always bliss... Glad you think so. From the top.... I was, sitting here wondering, what might of happened to Sweet Jane or Groovy Gal? This sentence is grammatical nonsense. A correct rendition would be: I was sitting here wondering what might have happened to Sweet Jane. Alternatively, at a push: I was sitting here wondering, "What might have happened to Sweet Jane?" If you can demonstrate any rational explanation, any scenario whatsoever which results in your rendition making grammatical sense, I will gladly applaud your other-worldly fruit-cakiness. In the meantime, however, I fear I must labour under the illusion that you may be one of those unusual types who derives an erotic frisson from stoutly defending what is demonstrably wrong.
