no you are right, if you are a medical doctor you are an MD, if you have a PhD (also known as Dphil) you are a doctor of philosophy regardless of the subject. There might be a couple more abbreviations. Strangest thing is that if you are surgeon, you are no longer Dr. whatever, you are Mr . whatever!

Well , if you were having a heart attack , the doctor of philosophy could , at least , divert your attention with a diatribe on the nature of reality while the dentist could perhaps shock you back to normal by doing a spot on imitation of the sound of his drill .

Guess what? I'm a Candidate of Philosophy! That's what they call anyone (well, almost) who finishes university studies here in Sweden :)

I had no idea you were even in Sweden. We took our holidays in Sweden last year. Well: one week on the mainland, one week on Gotland. I really enjoyed Sweden apart from driving in and around Stockholm- a nightmare I wish never to repeat.

Congratuations on the qualification, by the way; however meaningless it may be.
