Who do you think are the greatest bass players?

My favourite bassists are:

Chris Squire - Yes

Rick Danko - The Band

John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin.

John Paul Jones was also great on mandolin!

Compare anything from their 80s material with something from Blood Sugar Sex Magik, One Hot Minute, Californication, and By The Way. All these albums have completely different sounds. Their new album combines all their sounds.

1. Paul McCartney

2. John Entwistle

The 2 GREATEST bass players EVER! End of discussion! :jack: (never saw ANYBODY use that smily, guess I'm the first! :happybanana:)

I agree about McCartney and Entwistle. Add Roger Waters (Floyd) and Mick Karn (Japan)

You guys are serious about McCartney being a "great" bass player? I'm a longtime Beatles/McCartney fan but he's an above average bass player at best. I think you may be giving him more credit for his song writing skills and persona but as a bass player he's just "pretty good".

No, he's truly "great". I am able to separate the songwriting/singing from the bass playing.

Secondly, the question was "Who do you think are the greatest bass players?".

I am totally serious. I don´t like him as a person and I don´t appreciate his song writing skills since he´s no longer part of Lennon-McCartney, but I must admit he´s one of the best.

Did my post get 'edited' ? because I had posted a long list of bass influences as well as a couple paragraphs regarding Bass Playing neccessities. Maybe I shut down before posting by mistake, no biggie.

Ok, it's your list but I think if he wasn't Paul McCartney of the Beatles and just a bass player from some other band he wouldn't get a mention here.
