edna
"Sitting in the Midday Sun" The Kinks Written by Ray Davies. A track from their 11th album, " Preservation Act 1", released in November 1973. The song was recorded on June 8th. The single was released B-sided by "Sweet Lady Genevieve" in the US in August 1973 and B-sided by "One Of The Survivors" in the UK in June the same year. It had little promo so it didn't chart. Yet the critics loved the song. "The new Kinks record has to bring smiles onto a lot of faces. ... 'Sitting in the Midday Sun' sounds like it could have come right off of Village Green and melodically and lyrically is quite fine." "another winning tune from Raymond Douglas Davies and the boys." "One of those lightweight singles The Kinks put out when they're waiting for Ray Davies to come up with something truly remarkable. It's an adequately pleasant little summer song that will do what it's supposed to do." The song was released while Ray Davies was going through a big depression, after her wife left him taking their children with her. Davies even collapsed after one performance and was taken to the hospital due to drug overdose.

The single, B-sided by "Broken" was released in 1971. Randy Bachman says: "He had a party one night that went all night long and he didn't get any sleep. He went to a radio station the next morning for an interview and was a little bit [out of] form before going on. He could hardly see straight. They said to him, 'When the flashing light comes on, that means you're on the air.' The thing flashed 'Alert Flasher,' and he thought it was 'Albert Flasher' and he said 'What is this thing that says 'Albert Flasher?' over the air!"
