Earth-Angel
We went out for lunch today and in the background the TV was playing a really nice song. It was a band of guys, think there were 4 people. The lead singer was also the lead guitarist. They sounded alot like perhaps Crowded House, or at least the vocalist sounded like Sting. The music video was them performing with the sea, waves crashing, the skies opening up and raining, and the vocals were related ie. "The sea", "stars", "rain", "the sky" were in the lyrics. I believe they were singing about a woman, maybe? It was hard to really make anything out as the pub was rather noisy. I imagine they are quite a newish band, I've not seen them before (I don't think!) It's a nice pop-rock type song, and I'd really like to find out who/what it is I have trie googling the lyrics I remember, but there are a number of matches from Brand New to U2. _Laurie_
could it of been a song by Squeeze? they kind of sound like Crowded House.
_Laurie_
I looked under related artist at VH1.com and they mentioned Squeeze and Rockpile also.....you can listen to samples at VH1.com if that will help...
Jenny
I never saw the video to this song, and it's not newer, but could it be "Walk on the Ocean" by Toad the Wet Sprocket? The last video I can remember seeing with the band playing at the beach was by Rooney. I can't even remember the name of the song, though..... Earth-Angel
Thanks guys, but it's def not TTWS. I'll look up the Squeeze and Rooney songs, thanks They're definitely a 90's/00's band, I'm sure I would have recognised them otherwise. Their sound and clothes were also definitely not from pre 1997/98 Edited October 4, 2005 by Guest
daslied
Here are a few choices: Brand New - Play Crack The Sky Ocean Colour Scene - Third Shade Of Green I was thinking Aqualung's "Brighter Than Sunshine", but the singer is a pianist, and I think they're only a two-piece band. Great song, though.
Earth-Angel
Nope Das, it's none of those - I know them But thank you!
Earth-Angel
"Upon the ocean" seems to be stuck in my head, and there is a very distinct 'riff' that plays in the background in what I would imagine is the bridge. Light pop/rock, post 1995 for sure.
daslied
I bet it's the one Jenny mentioned above, the Toad The Wet Sprocket song. I believe the video was similar to your description. There's a prominent accordion, if that helps. We spotted the ocean at the head of the trail Where are we going, so far away And somebody told me that this is the place Where everything's better, everything's safe Walk on the ocean Step on the stones Flesh becomes water Wood becomes bone And half and hour later we packed up our things We said we'd send letters and all those little things And they knew we were lying but they smiled just the same It seemed they'd already forgotten we'd came Now we're back at the homestead Where the air makes you choke And people don't know you And trust is a joke We don't even have pictures Just memories to hold That grow sweeter each season As we slowly grow old

Tenacious_Peaches
I've had the TTWS song in my head for an hour now. Thanks a pantload, Chet.
daslied
Is that is in "First I'd like to butter your muffin" Chet, or Atkins? Thanks either way! Wait, were you even talking to me?
Tenacious_Peaches
Honest to God, I don't know where I got that phrase from, but I say it all the time. It does sound like it could be from an incredibly cheesy Anthony Michael Hall 80s movie, so sure, we'll go with the buttered muffin Chet. And of course I was speaking to you, das. You were the one who forced me to read the lyrics to the song. Sheesh.

Tenacious_Peaches
That's what we are here for, sweet Sue. When we aren't going wildly off topic, we are here to help each other. Maybe if we guess long enough, someone will come up with the right answer.

Earth-Angel
"something upon the ocean" keeps popping in my head, but the only sort of genre song that fits is Coldplay, and it aint them You know, it was a really light pop/rock song, nice vocals, not boyband, very Crowded House sounding. daslied
Razorlight - To The Sea Or maybe this one? Teitur - You're The Ocean There's too much sky, not enough blue There's too many questions to why I love you There's too many clouds, not enough sun The rain must fall on everyone I'm fire-you're the ocean I'm energy-you're the rhythm Love is somewhere in between What you believe and what you dream I'm just trying to make you mine You're the ocean There's too much doubt and not enough dare There's too much decision everywhere There's too much decision everywhere There's too much talk and not enough time Let's close our eyes and not our minds I'm fire-you're the ocean I'm energy-you're the rhythm Love is somewhere in between What you believe and what you dream I'm just trying to make you mine You look for leads, I follow clues You love to win, I dare to lose Mostly you're a mind game in my head You are earth, I am water I can give you what you're after You can be the word:I can be the rhyme: There's really nothing you can do You're going where I'm going too Stay beside me, stay beside me I want you I'm fire-you're the ocean I'm energy-you're the rhythm Love is somewhere in between What you believe and what you dream I'm just trying to make you mine You're the ocean

NightOwl
Hiya! Ok, first... to Tenacious_Peaches..the whole "Thanks a pantload, chet" thing was said in the movie Wayne's World. Perhaps that's where you got it. And Earth-Angel... I doubt this is it...but my suggestion for the song you're looking for would be "Truly,Madly,Deeply" by Savage Garden. Here's a link for you to listen to it, just in case. Get to it quick though, it's only good for seven days. http://s17.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0M183SMRIO72Q0X0MNW030WE23 Much Love, Jessica
