NightOwl Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Hi Folks, I was just wondering if any of you have suggestions for some songs that are slow and for either losing a loved one or just feeling alone. (In terms of sound) I'm looking for stuff like: "Tears In Heaven" by Eric Clapton "Shine Your Light" by Robbie Robertson "Nan's Song" by Robbie Williams "I Shall Believe" by Sheryl Crow ...Stuff like that. I look forward to reading your suggestions. Also, I apologize that this seems to be such a redundant request.

Foxy Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 'Something Fast' by The Sisters Of Mercy is a song when I'm feeling lonely... All the things We never needed I don't need them now All the things Were always confidential And hidden from me anyhow You can stand all night At a red light anywhere in town Hailing maries left and right But none of them slow down I seen the best of men go past I don't want to be the last Gimme something fast God knows everybody needs A hand in their decision Some of us are not so sure I seen his own held out For a ride on television I think he's still in Baltimore You can stand all night At a red light anywhere in town Hailing maries left and right But none of them slow down I seen the best of men go past I don't want to be the last Gimme something fast

You can look in the Relaxing Music thread for some stuff you might like...or some of the Sad Songs posts. I actually just wanted to compliment you on your choice of Robbie Robertsons - Shine Your Light...that song is amazing!
edna Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 This reminds me of "Shine a light", a very sad song on "Exile on Main Street", Rolling Stones. I always say the same ones: "Drive" (Cars), "Band of Gold" (Freda Payne), "Everything I own" (Bread) and those posted in the depressive mood songs threads...

XXX Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Hi Folks, I was just wondering if any of you have suggestions for some songs that are slow and for either losing a loved one or just feeling alone. Then a "redundant request" should get a not-so usual recommendation. Try these: "1ere Gymnopedie" composed by Erik Satie "Adagio In G Minor (Giazotto)" composed by Albinoni (one of the few who wrote for the oboe... you cannot go wrong with that) "I Pagliacci" composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo "Intermezzo" composed by Pietro Mascagni It's the eyetalians. They know how to convey it con forza espressiva
Otokichi Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 So you want a sing that will make you feel worse? Try "Broken Hearts" by Darren Benitez. When I first heard it on the radio I wondered why they were playing it, since it went beyond the Blues' "Jump in the river and die" viewpoint. In the song, a parent is apparently comforting a surviving child, and addressing a dead one, speaking of the eventual passing of elemental pain. Personally, Life is blue enough; put on some Louis Armstrong and move on...posthaste. No? OK, how about Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A wonderful World" off his 1993 CD, "Facing Future"? (It turns out he didn't have much of a future after all...)
edna Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 "God Save the Queen", Sex Pistols, mainly when they go "No future, no future..."
