Best musical decade (in the last century)

Recommended Posts

Well, If I could pick 10 years, I would say 65-75.

But I'll go with the 70's. There are better bands in the late 70's than there were early 60's.

I like 63-73 myself...I need to catch that real early Beatles and Beach boys stuff. :coolio:

While the 50's spawned the roots of rock from an amalgem of swing, folk, country, blues and big band, the decade of the 60's saw the purest revolution in rock advancements and music's future in general. Songwriting by the performing group or individual as opposed to relying on outsourcing to tin pan alley writers became paramount in the 60's. This opened wider the gates of musical expression than ever before. The parallel of receptivity of mass cultural changes (Woodstock happened in the 60's) with musical changes was never more profound than in the 60's (with a close second place going to the 20's.) The 60's bands did not need the 50's as much as the 70's groups needed the 60's. These are some of the reasons I chose the 60's over the 70's, though the 70's saw some really dynamite music (I did have to penalize the 70's decade 40 points for disco and Boy George.)

Dude.

Didn't I say 80s already?! That decade kicked so much ass, neck, and throat, it is incomprehensible why anyone would choose anything else ::

Maybe because the 70s pwns the 80s. End of discussion.

THE DECADE YOU GREW UP IN OF COURSE. We usually remember our youth fondest. Mine was the 1950s, BUT the most productive decade for great NEW songs was THE 1960s . Just look at how many 60s songs are used in Movie Soundtracks.

Lets just say a decade is 12 years.. Can 1968 to 1980 count?. It had the end of the 60's, all the 70's, and a taste of the 80's!!!!!. Mainly because I like Led Zeppelin and Queen.

I agree with Old55.... it all begun in the 50s, but the great one was the 60s... and then the 70s were great too... I lost much interest through the end of the 80s...

70's by far. But it almost seems like the 70's rock genre really started in 1968 and ended around 1977 or 1978.
So true. LED ZEPPELIN!!!!!. Virtuoso guitar solo's, it must be true!!!!.
