OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 An 8 or 9er, hey? No, you're on track now, but sorry - not Barry Mann, Cynthia Wiel, Jerry Lieber or Mike Stoller (need the Christian names too). C.mon! You can do it! Maybe work backwards? Think of successful 60s artists who never wrote a note and WHO wrote for them.
Kevin Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 How about the VC or at least the Distinquished Service Medal !!? Roger Greenaway / Roger Cook
Earth-Angel Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Someone who wrote a song for The Who but wasn't a performer?
OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 I think you should fall on your sword if you don't get it. You're making a great effort. You're on 2 points anyway, OK? :: Keep thinking Big Selling Artists of the 60s!
OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 Someone who wrote a song for The Who but wasn't a performer? Pete Townshend wrote ALL their Hits (except for a couple of covers) Angel. Speaking of the WHO, who is your avatar? She's very beautiful.
OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 Dan Penn / Spooner Oldham ? Are they for real? ::
Kevin Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Lamont Dozier / Brian & Eddie Holland Holland- Dozier- Holland
edna Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Burt Bacharach? Al davies? Schoppenhauer? I already mention Goffin/King, but King is a performer... No Leiber/Stoller, no Dolland/Hozier Hollan, no Barry/Greenwich... No Mort Shuman neither... ou la la...
OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 Sorry, I've been off on another Post, "Thread Of Lists". FANFARE!!! "Lamont Dozier". CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN! HE'S THE ONE. The Lyricist of the Holland, Dozier, Holland partnership which had more Hits in their time with Motown (1962-66)than ANY other Songwriters in that period.
OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 Yep! I think we had more people participate in that question than the previous few put together. THANK YOU ALL. You have to admire Kevin for his tenacity! NOW I'll have to think up a new Question. Earth-Angel Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Lamont who? Good one Old55, I think that gave everyone's braincells a good workout!!
edna Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Jr, I agree with you! OldFy, you should write a quizz book... Next one when you wake up or...?
OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 Thanks Angel. A bit before your time, but Holland-Dozier-Holland had Motown artists begging them to write songs for them in the 60s. They wrote 6 consecutive #1s for The Supremes. Here it is, Edna my dear. NEW QUESTION: Could be a toughie, but someone might get it straight up. What do the #1 Hits "It's My Party"/ Lesley Gore (1963) and "Ice Ice Baby"/ Vanilla Ice (1990) both have in common?
Earth-Angel Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 They were the only #1 hits for the respective artists?
edna Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Is it in the lyrics? It´s my party is a smashhit but I never heard the other song... well, yes I did but I guess it was a cover by MCHammer...
Kevin Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Yes, JR, Thank GOD, that's over. Onto the next one .... They were NOT written by Lamont Dozier ..... so.... They were both artists with #1's who were in their teens ?
OLD 55 Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 I'M GOING TO CANCEL THAT QUESTION. IT'S TOO "AIRY FAIRY". Billboard have a number of other Charts besides their "Hot 100 Singles". One of those is their "Rhythym And Blues" (R & Chart (now called "Hip Hop", for goodness sake). Both of those songs were ALSO #1 on the R&B Chart. In the 60s it was very unusual for white artists to even make that Chart, let alone top it. I'd say "It's My Party" would have been one of it's MOST unlikely #1s. Of course, Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" is best known for ripping off the opening riff from Queen & David Bowie's great song "Under Pressure". Give me 15 minutes to come up with a decent question.
