Steel2Velvet
If you have ever wondered how John picked his Songfacts moniker, after listening to his playlists (there are two, a YouTube and some additional songs on Grooveshark; which takes a bit of time to load, be patient) you will have no more questions. So, get your mind ready to get down lower than low and then be delightfully entertained by his further eclectic selections during Bluesboy's Top Ten Selections: All Your Love ( I Miss Loving) - Melvin Taylor As Long As I Have You - Led Zeppelin (medley not on any official release and only played in concert '68 & '69) Back On the Streets Again - Tower of Power Blue - LeAnn Rimes Blue Ridge Cabin Home - Flatt & Scruggs Bob Away My Blues - Marshall Tucker Band Boogie Chillen # 2 - Hooker 'n' Heat (John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat) But Not For Me - Chet Baker Cactus Tree - Joni Mitchell (the defining snapshot of the late '60's --> early '70s) Church Street Blues - Norman Blake Come Rain or Come Shine - Ray Charles Corcovado - Stan Getz / Astrud Gilberto Desafinado - Stan Getz / Joao Gilberto Don't Know Why I Love You - The Persuasions Driving Wheel - Little Junior Parker Every Beat of My Heart - James Brown Green Dolphin Street - Maynard Ferguson Orchestra Hello - Lee Michaels I Don't Know What You've Got, But it's Got Me - Little Richard In a Sentimental Mood - George Robert & the Metropole Orchestra In Memory of Elizabeth Reed - Allman Brothers Band Just One of Those Things - Ella Fitzgerald Just One of Those Things - Billie Holiday Keep On Lovin' Me Baby - Magic Sam Killing Floor - Howlin' Wolf Laughing - David Crosby (great collaboration from the San Francisco scene) Leave It With Me - Blodwyn Pig (unique jazz, blues and rock with Jack Lancaster on flute / Mick Abrahams guitar) Love For Sale - Buddy Rich Big Band Low Society - Lowell Fulson Mama, What About Your Daughter - J.B. bluesboy
Thanks Ron for the great intro !! A few more notes on some of the selections... Old & in the Way was a bluegrass supergroup from the mid 1970's with Jerry Garcia on banjo David Grisman on mandolin Peter Rowan on guitar and Vassar Clements on fiddle Return to Forever was a jazz supergroup during the mid '70s whose members all went on to successful solo careers after leaving this group Stanley Clarke on bass Lenny White on drums Al Di Meola on guitar and of course Chick Corea on keyboards continuing his projects That's a dynamite muted trumpet solo by Harry "Sweets" Edison on Billie Holiday's Just One of Those Things. I still can't find any audio for Melvin Taylor's version of All Your Love( I Miss Loving) and I hesitate to put up a 30 second link from amazon and such. I had it up on youtube for awhile before "they" took it down. I've included a live version of Led Zep's Nobody's Fault But Mine only because the microphone was so close to Bonham's drums. Lea
I'm enjpying you list very muck Blusey I love the Blues it is one of my favorite genre's. I don't think I know any of the songs but I do know a lot of the artists. I love Paul Butterfield. 'It All Comes Back", is one of my all time favorite songs ever. I think it was on my last PTT but I had to remove it. I was very disappointed you didn't play the first time around. Glad you are this time

Steel2Velvet
1. Corcovado - Stan Getz / Astrud Gilberto "Quiet nights and quiet stars .." Until you've walked on a Rio beach at night, glanced back over your shoulder at vaulting Corcovado peak, you've little to know how impressive this song is. It IS Rio! 2. Every Beat of My Heart - James Brown Hearing this reminded me how I had become forgetful that not only was he a masterful stage performer, but Brown may have been an even better musician and band leader, on a par with Goodman and Ellington. 3. She - Gram Parsons So underrated was this man who left too soon. 4. Bob Away My Blues - Marshall Tucker Band What a great assemblage of talent! 5. Work Song - Paul Butterfield Blues Band 6. Salt Creek - Blake/Rice/Doc Watson So nice to see you honor Doc Watson with a selection, BB. One of the best acoustic guitarists ever. 7. Leave It With Me - Blodwyn Pig 8. So Hard To Share - John Mayall 9. Don't Know Why I Love You - The Persuasions 10. Keep On Lovin' Me Baby - Magic Sam Thanks for all the great music, my man! edna
Thanks edna!!! I tried your site edna, but it's in spanish. Really?? try this one... http://littlemp3.com/ (Farin posted it some days ago) And even if the site I suggested is in Spanish (I tried to change language but it only accepts spanish... strange... ) you can just write the name of the song and /or performer in the box where it says "Buscar" (search) and that's all... Especially since he made a space in his schedule to vote for yours. Post-college life is a bugger also! I think it was Lincoln that said, "Most folks do pretty much what they most want to do."
