cyberjudge
All members of Songfacts are most welcome to vote and help create next week's Top 40. Don't be shy. It may look a little complicated, but it's not really. You don't have to be an 'oldie' - just someone who appreciates this kind of music. ................................................. Eligibility of songs: * U.S. Charted Pop AND R&B Singles of the 1950s+ era, but not after 1963. * No Album Only Tracks or Uncharted B Sides. * U.S. Chart Links may be found for on Songfacts' Main Index page, where there are alphabetical links to many songs, either by Title or Artist. If your songs aren't there, you could use Google/Wikipedia - or PT Cyberjudge if in doubt. .................................................. IT'S EASY Allot your points in 3 sections: PART A: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #40 (below) you'd like to advance: (Plus) +5, +4, +3, +2, +1. PART B: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #40 (below) you don't really care for, or you think could make way for other New songs.: (Minus) -5, -4, -3, -2, -1. PART C: 5 New Songs you'd like to see in the next Top 40: (Plus) *5, +4, +3, +2, +1. Please note that these may be duplicated on a number of Lists - you can go along with others to support songs you like. It's best to do that if you vote later. VOTING IS NOW OPEN ! cyberjudge
P.S. I will keep the thread open until next week's regular TT closes, to make sure everyone who wants has a chance to vote ... but voting early helps in tabulating the votes. P.P.S. Please consider the # of weeks a song has been on the chart in making your votes. There are a lot of songs that have been on the chart a long time (7 of the top 10 have been in for 11+ weeks and will receive penalties) and it is very hard to get new songs on the chart and to move new songs up if people are still voting up songs that have been around forever. I've been meaning to nominate My Boy Lollipop. That list just reminded me. You're right. That station plays a good mix from the 50's, 60's and 70's...those old AM hits mainly. cyberjudge
Hello again and welcome to Golden Oldies Top 40. Once again, we’ll be counting down the hottest hits from 1950 to 1963 as voted by our panel at songfacts.com. I’m DJ Ceejay and here we go: Last week, it was Lesley Gore’s turn at #1 with Judy’s Turn to Cry. Who’s turn will it be this week. We’ll find out soon. 2 songs drop out of our countdown this week: The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole stores its roasted chestnuts away until next holiday season. And Witch Doctor by David Seville also casts its disappearing spell. 2 new songs appear on the chart this week: Nat King Cole replaces himself on the chart as Unforgettable debuts at #40, joining 2 other Cole entries, Ramblin’ Rose at #31 and Too Young at #27. And Bobby Darin re-enters the chart at #36 with Mack the Knife, which peaked at #5 back in week #2. Let’s look at #31 to #40: TW 31 LW 30 (11) RAMBLIN' ROSE NAT 'KING' COLE TW 32 LW 27 (4) THE CHIPMUNK SONG THE CHIPMUNKS TW 33 LW 32 (4) SANTA BABY EARTHA KITT TW 34 LW 31 (11) DUKE OF EARL GENE CHANDLER TW 35 LW 33 (11) GREENFIELDS BROTHERS FOUR TW 36 R/E (9) MACK THE KNIFE BOBBY DARIN TW 37 LW 34 (3) I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA CLAUS JIMMY BOYD TW 38 LW 35 (3) FROSTY THE SNOWMAN GENE AUTRY TW 39 LW 37 (13) WALK LIKE A MAN 4 SEASONS TW 40 NEW UNFORGETTABLE NAT KING COLE

And Dave Brubeck takes 3 this week, up from #11 to #8, with Take Five. And falling 5 spots out of the #1 spot, is Judy’s Turn to Cry by Lesley Gore. It is tied for the 2nd biggest drop from #1 (with Runaround Sue, behind only Gore’s own You Don’t Own Me). The biggest jump to #1 was Del Shannon’s Runaway back in week #3, which shot up 16 positions from #17 to #1. The 2nd biggest jump was the week before that, when (We’re Gonna) Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley & His Comets cometed into the #1 spot from #9. And with the biggest leap to #1 in 44 weeks, up 5 spots from #6, the new #1 on Golden Oldies Top 40: TW 1 LW 6 (9) FINGERTIPS (PART II) STEVIE WONDER That's all for this week's countdown. In just 3 weeks, GO-40 will reach its 50th countdown. After week 50, we'll go through our archives and compile a list of nominees from which our panel (and anyone on SF is invited to participate, whether they have voted before or not), to vote on an "Ultimate Golden Oldies Top 40". Stay tuned for more info. Until next week, keep your head in the stars and keep reaching for the ground.
