TheLizard Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 I love that we all have almost completely different favorites.
Batman Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) here's my favorite from the Flying Lotus album And here's my favorite from the Onra album. While many "80s revivalists" like to be goofy and poke fun at the 80s cheesiness, Onra just takes the sleek funkiness of smooth 80s dance music and mixes that style of songwriting with J Dilla-esque leftfield hip hop. Sorry about the indie-buzzword overload there, but it's really worth checking out if you like your hip hop covered in butter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4D2IN3RVFI Edited July 11, 2010 by Guest
TheLizard Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Flying Lotus was just ok for me, and I didn't like Onra at all. I guess I'm still too much of a rocker at heart to go for stuff like that.
Batman Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 I've kinda moved away from rock in the past few years. I still like a lot of it though, BSS is pretty high on my list. I still like the rock that has lotsa soul
TheLizard Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 rock that has lotsa soul See: The Hold Steady.
Batman Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Also, any fan of Outkast needs to check out Big Boi's new album. Stands right up there with Speakerboxxx, Stankonia, and ATLiens for me.
TheLizard Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 I've heard a few tracks, it's pretty good. But when are we getting a new Outkast album?
glowinthedarkcheese Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) I'm sure this has been said already, but My Chemical Romance is supposed to have a new album. They say it'll be more like their first two than The Black Parade. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=55174697552 List of some of their upcoming songs. Edited July 12, 2010 by Guest
Ombre Vivante Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 I can't wait for The Holy Ghost! album that's coming out later this year... and maybe Asobi Seksu will keep touring endlessly and come back to SoCal
lazybones Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 New stuff in my library, quite frequently played on repeat... Me You Us Them - Post-Data Bear in Heaven - Beast Rest Forth Mouth The Megaphonic Thrift - Decay Decoy Sweet Trip - You Will Never Know Why MGMT - Congratulations
pinkstones Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 I feel so old.....sigh Don't feel bad. I'm 28 and haven't heard of 2/3 of these people.
Farin Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Dark Night of the Soul was finally officially released
Batman Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Wow, I've never even heard of that project, but reading the wikipedia convinced me I have to check it out. They got quite the crew of guest singers!
Farin Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 it was one of the best albums of 2009 (unofficially) and will be one of the best albums of 2010 too, you definitely won't regret getting it too bad 2 people of these collaborations have died in the meantime
LeeBB Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 too bad 2 people of these collaborations have died in the meantime "have died"... that's putting a nice spin on things. "Dark Night Of The Soul" is more cursed than The Wiggles.
RockyRaccoon Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Who else died? I can only think of Vic Chesnut
LeeBB Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Who else died? I can only think of Vic Chesnut Sadly, Mark Linkous too, in March.
RockyRaccoon Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 I have a new favorite album of 2010. And it's "The Wild Hunt" but The Tallest Man On Earth. I love everything about this album.
Batman Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 I got to see him live this spring. I'm not a huge fan but I'd definitely reccomend seeing him if you get the chance, if only to confirm that yes, his voice really does sound like that.
RockyRaccoon Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Haha. A friend of mine said that he saw him in concert and then afterwards went out back and the two of them fist bumped. Apparently it was pretty cool.
Batman Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Cee-Lo's new song is just wonderful. One of my favorites of the year. If it wasn't for the title, I could see it being as big a hit as "Crazy."
