racingfan
Hello, I am getting married next year and even though it's not something that absolutely has to be done, I thought it would be nice for our "first dance" song to be related somehow with our theme: medieval/renaissance/castles/knights, etc. So far, we've come up with "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera, but I want to explore all of my options. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks much!!
Farin
Hi racingfan, Welcome to Songfacts how about "Scarborough Fair"? maybe not S&G's Canticle version though, since that part (anti-war) might not fit to a wedding, but there are numerous other versions of that song Edited July 11, 2008 by Guest 'numerous' implies plural
Carl
This sounds like a fun wedding - I'd wear my devil horns and bring my broadsword. It's not much of a wedding song, but The Court Of The Crimson King fits the Ren Faire theme.
_Laurie_
Good one Carl...And probably some songs from ELP, Yes, Etc...I always thought "For Your Love" by The Yardbirds had a Ren Faire type of sound to it...
miamisammy29
And the obvious... "ROMEO AND JULIET" by Dire Straits
Shawna
just about anything by Loreena McKennitt would fall in that area.
The Seeker
And the obvious... "ROMEO AND JULIET" by Dire Straits It's the first one I thought of too, but I'm not so sure if you'd want that to be played at your wedding... it's a break-up song to me. The girl's moved on and poor Romeo's still pining for her
_Laurie_
For Your Love ~ Yardbirds I love this song! And then there's the group Renaissance.. Northern Lights ~ Renaissance Carpet Of The Sun ~ Renaissance
Steel2Velvet
I always get that Camelot imagery whenever hearing Lady Jane - Rolling Stones. It also has a love/marriage theme to it.
Foolonthehill
Time Table- Genesis Kind of a mournful song, but the right theme.
_Laurie_
Knight in Rusty Armour - Peter & Gordon Nights In White Satin ~ Moody Blues..not exactly "knights", but a nice slow song to dance to...

Ombre Vivante
I second Loreena McKennitt. You could also try Enigma, but that'd be a stretch. There's also Delerium.
cyberjudge
You could consider Bryan Adams' Everything I Do (I Do It for You), which is from the Medieval-themed film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
bazooka
Without knowing its history, I always thought this was a straightforward (and medieval-feeling) Love song. A maybe? All My Love -- Led Zeppelin
racingfan
Thanks all for the suggestions. I still haven't quite found the perfect one, but there were some good listens in that list! Still open to ideas. All I really want is a soft ballad that deals with love and fairytale-ish imagery. Not sure if what I'm looking for exists... Lucky
Greensleeves ~ By anyone. The song fits the theme, and is beautiful. Maybe don't use the lyrics, since they are more about someone leaving as opposed to marrying.
