  1. I tend to agree with Jrow. It seems from your post that you are a big Beastie Boys fan as opposed to Dylan who you have dabbled in. I have never seen either but Dylan is past his heyday. Back in the 70's I had a chance to see Dylan when he did his Hurricane tour and I flatly turned it down. You really need to acquire a taste for Dylan if you plan on sitting through one of his concerts. The Beastie Boys will get you up and dancing in the aisles, hence you being a big fan I believe hands down you will enjoy yourself more. Get yourself a few Dylan albums (if you haven't yet), find a rainy day, turn up the volume on your speakers (hope you have surround sound), sit back with a beer and then enjoy the concert you will miss. Have a good time whatever your choice is!
  2. You all forgot to mention Frank and Nancy Sinatra. Their big duet hit was Something Stupid! i believe it was a number one hit for them.
  3. Mack The Knife was number one when I was born. It charted first for six weeks between Oct 5 and Nov 15 of 1959. Mack The Knife was also the number one song of that year.
  4. It has to be the Crash Test Dummies song Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm with the immortal lyrics in their chorus...Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm.
  5. I still own the original 45 single as well as the album. Both records that I own are the gold vinyl albums which were limited copies. For those who do not own the album I highly recommend the purchase. Songs like Creepin', Black Licorice and Stop Looking Back are all great songs. I am going to guess that Grand Funk's other number one song was The Locomotion which is on the Shinin' On album. One other album I would highly recommend from Grand Funk is Phoenix. Not as popular as their other albums but surely great! Lastly, if you can pick up their live album Caught In The Act you will find that it is one of the best live albums you will ever hear. It is my second favorite after Deep Purple's Made in Japan. Grand Funk has always been my favorite American band.
  6. XXX....that was so profound. I think reflecting on the decisions you made is definitely more positive than wondering what would have happened if you took the other route, whatever it was. Life is a learning experience and we can only learn by our mistakes (for those of you who have made mistakes) and become a better person by them.
  7. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down - The Band American Pie - Don McLean Ball Of Confusion - The Temptations (Their retrospect of the occurrences of the late sixties) I Don't Like Mondays - The Boontown Rats (A girl killed two of her classmates and when asked she replied,"I Don't Like Mondays")
  8. I have always felt Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" album had the best artwork I ever saw on a cover. I would also put Led Zep's 4th album (the 12 inch opened up like a centerfold) as containing great artwork as well.
  9. A song that came to mind immediately was Olivia Newton John's "I Honestly Love You" I Honestly Love You Maybe I hang around here A little more than I should We both know I got somewhere else to go But I got something to tell you That I never thought I would But I believe you really ought to know I love you I honestly love you You don't have to answer I see it in your eyes Maybe it was better left unsaid This is pure and simple And you should realize That it's coming from my heart and not my head I love you I honestly love you I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable I'm not trying to make you anything at all But this feeling doesn't come along everyday And you shouldn't blow the chance When you've got the chance to say I love you I honestly love you If we both were born In another place and time This moment might be ending in a kiss But there you are with yours And here I am with mine So I guess we'll just be leaving it at this I love you I honestly love you I honestly love you
  10. I posted a site above which is a Q & A with Pete Best. What I get from that session is Pete Best was not compensated until ten songs he played on were added to the Anthology 1 CD. Hit the link in my post above for a review of that Q & A session.
  11. Back in the early 70's Wayne Newton had a hit with Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast.
  12. Annabelle.....I think you have it. If the count of asterisks are precise, then it would read as follows: This was LED ZEPPELIN's first US single, and their only US Top-10 hit. Some of their most popular songs, like "Stairway to Heaven" were not released as singles.
  13. The Champ with Ricky Schroeder and Jon Voight Pay It Forward with Haley Joel Osment and Helen Hunt
  14. Written in French in 1961 this song was translated into English by Rod McKuen in 1964 and recorded by Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio. The Beachboys decided not to release their recording of the song in 1973. In 1974 the English version became a big hit for a singer who previously sang with his wife as a duo. The song went on to sell over 6 million copies worldwide.
  15. At least half of all Bob Dylan's songs!
  16. Might as well clear up something of what I said earlier but I will first say I did get Total Recall. In Vanilla Sky I understand it was a dream but what I did not get was where did the dream start and where did it end. It confused me. My kids tried to explain it to me but I still did not get it. Oh well...shame on me for not being the brilliant one when it comes to this movie.
  17. I have had the same argument with a guy I work with. In this case he had evidence to back it up......some propaganda he found on the internet along with other ridiculous statements from that day. I argued with him how could he believe such nonsense but even today he still swears by it. I am sure your friend has seen similiar sites. I think it's a shame when folks puts junk like this on these propaganda sites. These sites only insult the memories of the victims of 9/11.
  18. The movie I never got was Vanilla Sky. Weird and totally confusing!!
  19. I whole heartedly agree with you. This is a great site. One of the great things about this site is the shared knowledge of music by those who post. Always something to learn.
  20. In my opinion the funniest I ever saw was Animal House.
  21. MeatLoaf was ingenius when he added Phil Rizzuto to the song. It was his love of baseball. There was a time when MeatLoaf would play 15 to 20 fantasy leagues a season. (maybe more)
  22. The final note at the end of the Beatle's "A Day In The Life".
  23. I would go with some of the ballad writers from the 70's for easy listening. Some off the top of my head are Harry Chapin, Jackson Brown and Gordon Lightfoot.
