  1. My parents went to shows like Wayne Newton in Vegas. they even saw Hal Linden (yes, of Barney Miller fame) at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, NJ. However, Mom was one of the bobby soxer's that went to see Frank Sinatra (not junior) in NYC in the 40's. :happybanana:
  2. Did your parents ever take you to a concert when you were young (say 14 and under). My parents took me to Atlantic City around 1968-69. At the Steel Pier (home of the diving horse) I saw Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The New Vaudeville Band (one hit wonder did Winchester Cathedral) and Frank Sinatra.................Junior. Yes I saw Frank Sinatra Jr. I didn't think of him much until I saw him on The Sopranos.
  3. My parents listened to Billy Vaughan, Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass and The Ray Coniff Singers. Unfortunately all of those albums were involved in a horrendous accident when i tossed them onto the Garden State Parkway like frisbees. What a loss. Meanwhile I have tapes of my kids singing Beatles classics like Yellow Submarine and Bungalow Bill. (Pronounced Bumbalow by my then 4 year old son). I also took them to a free concert in a park about 2 miles from my house. It was a free show headlining Gov't Mule. These kids are learning rock and roll.
  4. He's loads of fun to imitate...especially after a few drinks.
  5. I like 63-73 myself...I need to catch that real early Beatles and Beach boys stuff.
  6. My kids liked it when they were very young, but it turned into something other than I remembered. They have a couple autographed pictures in their rooms. they won them at dofferent places. They aren't into it anymore and neither am I.
  7. My opinion, but I think everybody does Dylan better than Dylan. All Along the Watchtower, Mr. Tambourine Man, Highway 69 Revisited, etc. Did you ever hear Bowie's Song For Bob Dylan off Hunky Dory? He imitates Dylan (somewhat) but it isn't a cover. By the way...listen to Bowie's Pin-ups for great, great covers. The bonus tracks on the CD have Bowie doing Springsteen. Bowie has always done covers, Fill Your Heart, It Ain't Easy, Let's Spend the Night Together, Across the Universe, My Death....I even have a bootleg of him doing a duet witfh Marianne Faithfull of I Got You Babe. He also does Round and Round, and White Light, White Heat.
  8. I went to see pro wrestling once when I was a kid. My family was staying down the shore in Wildwood, NJ (an old time rock and roll mecca btw) and there was going to be a wrestling match. My Dad said I could go so he gave me money to go buy tickets. I went into this little room and out of the back came Gorilla Monsoon and he personally sold me the tickets. Feature wrestlers that i recall from that night were: Haystacks Calhoun, Chief Jay Strongbow, George "The Animal" Steele, Toru Tanaka & Mr. Fuji, SD Jones, Ivan Putski, Larry Szbysko (spelling??), if memory serve, Killer Kowalski was there too. Also a guy from New Zealand who was very popular but his name escapes me. It was fun stuff for sure.
  9. It was "space Oddity" by David Bowie. I played it so much that the quality went downhill. I bought another copy and gave the original to my best friend. I wonder if he still owns it? I'll have to ask him if he remembers that from 30 years ago.
  10. I checked the record books and this is now the longest conversation ever on sealing wax, er concealing whacks, um, right, ceiling wax. :sleepy:
  11. In the lyrical pursuit game on of the questions id about the Stones "19th Nervous Breakdown". The lyric is "Your Father is still perfecting ways of.......the answer says "Of making ceiling wax". I'm sure it is supposed to be "Sealing Wax". The point being Father was wasting his time perfecting something that was already perfected and going out of style. I checked on Lyrics on Demand and they say ceiling wax too. I know that's wrong, i just can't prove. They talk about sealing wax in "Puff the Magic Dragon" too. Can somebody help me prove this unimportant yet troublesome point?
  12. It is in Jersey, I can make that deal happen if you want!
  13. I play a version of air guitar on my steering wheel...I'm a virtuoso there. :guitar:
  14. I saw Queen in concert 10 times and Zep once. I'm going for Queen because I liked the guitar work of Brian May...but it's a tough call here...they are so different. :guitar:
  15. There was a guy in the late 70's that had a hit in French. he was called Plastic Bertrand. I can't remember the song title because, well, it was in French. I do have the album though.
  16. The late, great Scott Muni of WNEW-FM New York. He died this year and the calls to his last station 104.3 FM NY were amazing. Paul McCartney, Ian Andersen, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, you name 'em and they called in to pay respects. He was there when the Beatles landed in NY, he practically invented the FM AOR format...a tough act to follow.
  17. How could I forget War Pigs...that song sounds like war. How about Donovan's "to Susan on the West Coast Waiting" Too obscure? It's the flip side of Atlantis!! Remember 45's?
  18. Saturday 1/8/05 would have been Elvis' 70th birthday. It is also Bowie's birthday (57 I think?)
  19. David Bowie's "Running Gun Blues" paints a bleak picture. BTW "The Man Who Sold The World" is an amazing album. Truly a "Bowie does metal" experience. Tony Visconti's bass lines are legendary. Mick Ronson on guitar is magic. It's a great, but dark album. David Bowie Lyrics Running Gun Blues Lyrics I count the corpses on my left, I find I'm not so tidy So I better get away, better make it today I've cut twenty-three down since Friday But I can't control it, my face is drawn My instinct still emotes it I slash them cold, I kill them dead I broke the gooks, I cracked their heads I'll bomb them out from under the beds But now I've got the running gun blues It seems the peacefuls stopped the war Left generals squashed and stifled But I'll slip out again tonight Cause they haven't taken back my rifle For I promote oblivion And I'll plug a few civilians I'll slash them cold, I'll kill them dead I'll break them gooks, I'll crack their heads I'll slice them till they're running red But now I've got the running gun blues Soundtracks | TV Themes | One Hit Wonders
  20. I need to apologize to the guitar Gods for not mentioning Stevie Ray. I saw him with Bowie. Saw him as a warm up for the Moody Blues. Solo I saw him 3 times..every one was fantastic. Also saw Mick Taylor playing with the Bluesbreakers. Another Mick was Mick Ralphs with Mott and Bad Co. Saw Rick Derringer several times. Saw Muddy Waters with Johnny Winter. Rick Neilsen and Cheap Trick. Neil Geraldo with Pat Benetar. Tom Scholz (spelling?) Boston. I saw Heart on the day that Elvis died. Can't remember the guitar plays name, but he was smokin'. :guitar:
  21. I'm proud to say that I asked the tour guide at the Alamo when we were going to see the basement. Pee-Wee ruined the life of all Alamo tour guides with that one. Then again, maybe I'm the only idiot to recite lines from Pee-Wee Herman movies to innocent tour guides. Oh well. :sleepy:
