  1. Running Gun Blues by Bowie I count the corpses on my left, I find I'm not so tidy So I better get away, better make it today I've cut twenty-three down since Friday But I can't control it, my face is drawn My instinct still emotes it I slash them cold, I kill them dead I broke the gooks, I cracked their heads I'll bomb them out from under the beds But now I've got the running gun blues It seems the peacefuls stopped the war Left generals squashed and stifled But I'll slip out again tonight Cause they haven't taken back my rifle For I promote oblivion And I'll plug a few civilians I'll slash them cold, I'll kill them dead I'll break them gooks, I'll crack their heads I'll slice them till they're running red But now I've got the running gun blues
  2. "Revolution Blues" by Neil Young Well, we live in a trailer at the edge of town You never see us 'cause we don't come around. We got twenty five rifles just to keep the population down. But we need you now, and that's why I'm hangin' 'round. So you be good to me and I'll be good to you, And in this land of conditions I'm not above suspicion I won't attack you, but I won't back you. Well, it's so good to be here, asleep on your lawn. Remember your guard dog? Well, I'm afraid that he's gone. It was such a drag to hear him whining all night long. Yes, that was me with the doves, setting them free near the factory Where you built your computer, love. I hope you get the connection, 'cause I can't take the rejection I won't deceive you, I just don't believe you. Well, I'm a barrel of laughs, with my carbine on I keep 'em hoppin', till my ammunition's gone. But I'm still not happy, I feel like there's something wrong. I got the revolution blues, I see bloody fountains, And ten million dune buggies comin' down the mountains. Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars, But I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars.
  3. Yep...I think the last thing to go through his head was that bullet... Writer Hunter S. Thompson Kills Himself - Police Mon Feb 21,12:13 AM ET Top Stories - Reuters DENVER (Reuters) - Hunter S. Thompson, the renowned American journalist and novelist who wrote "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," fatally shot himself at his Colorado home on Sunday night, police said. He was 67. "We do have confirmation that Hunter Thompson was found dead this evening of an apparent self-inflicted wound," said Tricia Louthis, spokeswoman for the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office. Thompson was found dead at his home outside the ski resort of Aspen. The Sheriff's Office was unable to provide any further details.
  4. Hunter S. Thompson, writer, committed suicide. I think it was a question of "when" not "if". See Bill Murray play him in "Where The Buffalo Roam" with unique soundtrack including unusual work from Neil Young. Sandra Dee, movie star, singer and former wife of Bobby Darin died at age 63. John Raitt, actor, starred in Carousel and was father of Bonnie Raitt.
  5. I'm a Jersey guy and somewhere in my contract it says I have to love Springsteen...but I don't. The Songfacts gang comes from places far and wide...what is the opinion out there of BS? Springsteen Goes it Alone on New Album United Press International The E Street Band is again missing from New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen's next album. 'Devils & Dust,' which is scheduled for an April 26 release, is billed solely to Springsteen, his first solo album since 'The Ghost of Tom Joad' in 1995. Members of the E Street Band do contribute to the album, however, which features 12 new songs recorded in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Rumson, New Jersey. "The nice thing about where we're at this point is we're pretty free to do whatever we want. It gives you a lot of freedom to just make your music," Springsteen says of his relationship with the E Street Band, which he formed in the early '70s, disbanded it in 1989, regrouped briefly in 1995 and has been working with steadily since 1999 -- including last fall's Vote For Change Tour. Springsteen will support 'Devils & Dust' with a tour that is expected to include solo dates as well as small ensemble and full band concerts.
  6. With knowledge of the source, the list makes more sense.
  7. Look for (The Port of) Amsterdam by Bowie. You can find on the Pin-Ups CD with bonus tracks..it's one of those bonus tracks.
  8. David Crosby overstates the obvious...... David Crosby Slams Britney Over Her Musical Ability Music star David Crosby has slammed Britney Spears over her lack of musical ability. The 63-year-old singer, who first hit the big time in 1965 with pop group The Byrds, views the blonde superstar as merely appealing to young children who are unable to distinguish between talent and image. The "Turn Turn Turn" musician says, "She can't sing, write or play an instrument to save her life." "I think what happens is that, when they get a little older, kids realize that stuff has nothing to do with music." "That's why we get so many young people at our shows." :guitar:
  9. I cheated, but 15 years is really cheating...but those are 15 great years!!
  10. Quite Welcome...the intro acoustic guitar on this song has gone through my head the first thing each day for years now. I can't explain it. I wake up and start down the stairs accompanied by the intro to "I've Just Seen A Face". Not a bad thing, just a bit odd.
  11. Every Step You Take - Police. I heard Sting say he was amazed at how many people saw this as a love song. He claims it is about being a stalker...maybe that's more than a crush. How about "I've Just Seen A Face" by The Beatles. I've Just Seen a Face Writer, lead vocal: Paul McCartney I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place Where we just meet. She's just the girl for me And want all the world to see We've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-m'mmm-mmm. Had it been another day I might have looked the other way And I'd have never been aware. But as it is I'll dream of her Tonight, di-di-di-di'n'di. Falling, yes I am falling, And she keeps calling Me back again. I have never known The like of this, I've been alone And I have missed things And kept out of sight But other girls were never quite Like this, da-da-n'da-da'n'da. Falling, yes I am falling, And she keeps calling Me back again. Falling, yes I am falling, And she keeps calling Me back again. I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place Where we just meet. She's just the girl for me And want all the world to see We've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-da-da-da. Falling, yes I am falling, And she keeps calling Me back again. Falling, yes I am falling, And she keeps calling Me back again. Oh, falling, yes I am falling, And she keeps calling Me back again.
  12. Two Black Sabbath albums made it...no Beatles, Bowie, Stones or Who...how can that be? Iron Maiden ranked second in the list compiled by British magazine Kerrang! with their 1982 album 'Number of the Beast.' The notorious Sex Pistols came in third place with their era-defining 1977 disc 'Nevermind The B**locks.' The Top Ten British Rock Albums are: 1. Black Sabbath - 'Black Sabbath' 2. Queen - 'Sheer Heart Attack' 9. Iron Maiden - 'Iron Maiden' 10. Manic Street Preachers - 'The Holy Bible' Copyright World Entertainment News Network
  13. Santana's 1970 follow-up to their Woodstock-propelled smash '69 debut found leader Carlos Santana further expanding his San Francisco group's already broad musical boundaries. To wit: two hit singles that emanated from opposite ends of the spectrum--"Black Magic Woman," originally written and recorded by English blues-rock guitarist Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac, and New York Latin percussionist/dance music king Tito Puente's infectious "Oye Como Va." Tying blues, rock, and salsa together in one pancultural package, Abraxas also featured such standout tracks as "Gypsy Queen" and "Singing Winds, Crying Beasts." The latter underscored the growing Eastern sensibilities of guitarist Santana.
  14. Too Much Seconal - Johnny Winter (whiskey is also involved)
  15. Zack Starkey is drumming with the Who. How abotu Jason Bonham? Might work.

  17. I saw Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden in NYC on July 29, 1973...Waited outside a Ticketron outlet all night to get tickets. Told my Mom I was going to friends house and snuck in to the city (I was only 14, but soon to be 15!!!). I somehow think seeing them now would not hold a candle to that show for me. By coincidence, my oldest son was born on July 29, 1989..a full 16 years later...he's 15 now, who knows where he be sneaking off to...maybe to see Led Zeppelin!! Maybe I'll take him if they ever do decide to tour again. :guitar:
  18. Nikki Sixx Wins Battle Over Shoe Ads Motley Crue rocker Nikki Sixx has won a $600,000 settlement in a legal battle over the unlawful use of his image in an ad for Vans shoes. The bassist flew into a rage when he saw a photograph of himself used in advertising for the skateboard shoe and clothing giants - because he hadn't given the firm rights to use him as an endorser. Sixx marched into court with his wife, former Baywatch babe Donna D'Errico, on Wednesday in a bid to seek justice - and won. He tells news show Celebrity Justice, "Somebody has to stand up and I was willing to spend my own money and my own time...to stand up for myself and other people. "Mostly you find that people just let it go but, with me and the guys in Motley Crue, we've never been those kind of people. We believe in standing up for our rights and hopefully we're standing up for other people's rights, too." The judgement could not have come at a better time for Sixx, who's out on a world tour with Motley Crue.
  19. OK, it's cheating, but if I could pick a ten year period, instead of a specific decade...I'd pick 1964 - 1973. I don't think any other ten year period could top the music that happened during that stretch. If forced to choose a decade, it's the 70's. The spill over from the 60's into the first five years is enough on it's own to make it a powerful decade. The emrgence of punk, new wave, power pop, etc...all happened in the 70's. Even dreaded disco had some well crafted tunes. Listen to them again and you'll see what I mean.
  20. I had tickets to see Rory Gallagher on Long Island at a "My Father's Place" a popular club in the 70's and 80's. I drove from NJ, thru NYC, out to Roslyn only to find Rory cancelled and Al Stewart was the replacement act. I was tempted to leave, but figured I drove all that way. I'm glad I did, he put on a good show.
  21. "A cautionary tale about stardom and excess" is how I heard it described. It is simply an amalgam of many who passed before and a warning to those who might fall prey to the lifestyle.
  22. Modern times rock and Roll by Queen. A minute and a half of butt kicking music. :guitar:
  23. That's good information...thanks. Any idea about other international performances (Did they play Japan, Australia, etc??)
