Blue Fish Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 I've never known U2 to be a christian rock band, but if you say so... then they must be. Not a rock band, just Christian. Though some of there songs are right in the edge of rock..
The Seeker Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 That's because first and foremost, they ARE a rock band.
Batman Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 Limerick, eh? My grandma was born and raised in Killarney!
The Seeker Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 That's what I meant by saying nearly half the people here have Irish roots.

Crazy Don Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 All I know are country acts… Kathy Mattea (actually from Cross Lanes) Red Sovine I think the biggest band to come out of Charleston was called the Mind Garage. They were signed to RCA and released a cover of John D. Loudermilk's "Tobacco Road" (the song the Nashville Teens did).
The Seeker Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 Leeds in the north of England, 5th largest city in the country, seems to have led a fairly sheltered life and until quite recently has never been the centre of attention in the way as towns of similar population /stature, e.g. Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield. Live at Leeds

blind-fitter Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) Title explains it: Portland, Oregon... The Decemberists The Shins (they moved here) Elliott Smith Agalloch The Thermals The Helio Sequence Menomena Hazel The Wipers Stephen Malkmus Aren't The Gossip from Portland? They may not be very famous back home, but the UK's going crazy for The Gossip right now: magazine front-covers, daytime airplay, topping polls, etc. And why not? Beth Ditto is a really great vocalist, and "Standing In The Way Of Control" kicks major ass. Link to more info about The Gossip Edited March 10, 2007 by Guest Add link
blind-fitter Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 "Standing In The Way Of Control" is the track that's got everybody talking about them. The single charted last year, but has done even better on being re-released in 2007: No.7 in the hit-parade is a pretty good showing for something that might be described as "alternative"/punk rock. That description wouldn't do them justice, mind you: they've got the funk, the rock and the soul to go with it. It's your duty to hear them, and soon. I haven't heard the whole album yet (also titled "Standing In The Way Of Control") I bought it for my brother for Christmas though, and he confirms that it is excellent stuff... Vocalist Beth Ditto was voted NME's "Cool Icon 2006", which sounds like a heap of sh!t award when you consider it probably went to hapless smackfiend Pete Doherty the year before, but has never been won by a woman before, (not even Debbie Harry or Chrissie Hynde), let alone by a lady of larger stature who yodels in the canyons. It appears that The Gossip are now based in Portland, but may not be from there originally. Still, they're about to be H-U-G-E, so might as well check them out now: for credibility's sake, if nothing else.
Batman Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 looks like they are actually in Olympia, Washington, but hey, Pacific NW connection right there!
c_s_1987 Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Us Western Australians like to claim that AC/DC and INXS were Western Australian, but really they have both been mainly Sydney based.
blind-fitter Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 looks like they are actually in Olympia, Washington, but hey, Pacific NW connection right there! I heard them say they were from Portland in an interview on a Radio 1 evening show a couple of weeks ago. Maybe they just move about alot...
TheLizard Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 I'm assuming you meant ancestors. No, I'm just always looking ahead. Thanks for catching that, I feel sort of silly now.
Batman Posted March 15, 2007 Author Report Posted March 15, 2007 A lot of people just lump the two states of the pacific northwest together, which is why you'll hear people refer to Sleatter Kinney as a Portland band.
Batman Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 turns out the Gossip actually are from Portland, bf
