Mike 2
Miss America - Songfacts Originating as a beauty contest in 1921, it now prefers to avoid such terms since beauty is no longer the defining factor used to judge the contestants. Originally held in Atlantic City, New Jersey and continued there each year in September through 2004 (except for the year 2000, when it was held on the 14th. of October). In 2006, the pageant moved to its new home and time in Las Vegas, Nevada in January, at the same time the event leaned back toward sexiness among the contestants. Some involved with the organization say that "other pageants are looking for a model, but Miss America is looking for a role model". The pageant still presents itself as a "scholarship pageant," and the primary prizes for the winner and her runners-up are scholarships to the institution of her choice. Since most of the contestants are college graduates already, or on the verge of graduating, most of their prize money is devoted to graduate school or professional school. The first Miss America contest was held September 7, 1921. There are four main competitions. •Interview •Talent •Swimsuit •Evening Gown The picture posted above is of a Miss USA winner. In the early years of the Miss America pageant, a beauty competition of the women wearing bathing suits was the main event. When pageant officials decided to make this a less important part of the competition, swimsuit-making sponsors started their own separate pageant, Miss USA. This was the 2006 Miss America contest winner - Here is the photo of the contestants of the first pageant held in 1921. The winner was Margaret Gorman

Yeah, right. That sound you hear is the bulimic vomiting of an entire generation of young girls who do not believe that beauty is the defining factor used to judge women in our society.* *That was sarcasm, in case you are unable to discern my disgust through your monitor. Blue Fish 0
Sheesh, "Beauty is no longer the defining factor used to judge the contestants." Do they think we're stupid? They just say that so they don't get blamed for eating disorders in young girls, it's just a way of covering their backs.
