Farin Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 A Brief History of Conspicuous Product Placement in Movies Strangely the first example that came to my mind is missing: the use of FedEx in Cast Away
Brad_M Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Maybe because Fed-Ex is a service, not a product.
Farin Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Maybe because Fed-Ex is a service, not a product. that's a bit TOO much splitting hairs, don't you think? Product placement, or embedded marketing, is a form of advertisement, where branded goods or services are placed in a context usually devoid of ads, such as movies, the story line of television shows, or news programs. The product placement is often not disclosed at the time that the good or service is featured. Besides, McDonalds, Hooters, Target or Southwest Airlines, which are all mentioned, aren't really 'products' either
Brad_M Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I don't know, I was just taking a guess as to why. To me, while others may not, I consider a product an actual item a company offers, not the company itself. McDonald's>no, Big Mac>yes Hooters>no, After-hours Hooters>yes
Farin Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 a really cool prank on a Belgian call centre
TheLizard Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Funny, because I was about to post this one.
