OLD 55
Gee I wish I was around when all these Posts are made. I really enjoy reading them the next morning though. I see what you mean Steel - sort of "profiling". Sounds great, but I'm not very computer literate. Maybe check with one of the Moderators to see if it's viable first ? RonJon I agree that it will be interesting to see the "percentage per decade" of the Top Tens. I'll have a go at that later. That leads me to something that Farin suggested to me last night. Here's the main extracts of our PTs. Songfactors choice Top10 Archive? FarinU Hey Darryl, How about we do a thread where we archive all the results of the weekly Top10s? That way we would have a separate, clearly laid out listing of our musical taste. And maybe after 10-15 weeks we don't know anymore if we had a song already in the Top10, so we can search there too (without browsing as many pages). What do you think? ................................................ OLD 55 Sounds Great to me Farin. How would you like to be our Archivist ? .................................................. FarinU I'll do that gladly! ................................................. OLD 55 Good on you Martin. Thank you ! Maybe we could put the year* of each song beside it? I've got them all for Top Tens 1-4 and I can soon look up 5. * I've been using the year of release on a U.S. Single or Album. ................................................. FarinU Good Idea! For the years I don't know I'll take it from the Songfacts, so you don't have to look up all the 50+ songs... Martin .................................................. Farin, I 'm sure everyone else will agree that this a great idea - commencing an Archive of our Top Tens. You are officially the - Songfactors Choice Top Ten ARCHIVIST ALSO we still have bluesboy's idea to implement when we've completed a few more Top Tens AND another great idea for a Favorite Band/Group Poll from CeeCee (more about that later). I think we're very fortunate to have such a good bunch of people here. Thank you all for participating so enthusiastically. And keep those ideas coming please ! Shawna
If anyone would like to get in touch with Brad, he would be wonderful for putting together the sort of thing S2V was talking about. He's very meticulous, an organized thinker, and good with math so he'd be able to keep count and stats - if he has time and wants to do it. Sorry if I'm stepping on any toes here... I didn't think I'd seen where anyone was stepping up to the plate for that yet?

OLD 55
Hi Shawna. No, there's no stepping on toes here ! We have a pretty convivial attitude I think. I understand Steel's aim, but I thought he meant it would take the writing of a computer program linked to Songfacts data base ? That's why I suggested he check with one of the Moderators to see if it's viable first.
OLD 55
Phew...I put Heart Of Gold before my own suggestions! I did the same with my two nominations - put them #2 and #4. This is going to be very interesting. No way I'd try to forecast it.

Steel2Velvet
If anyone would like to get in touch with Brad, he would be wonderful for putting together the sort of thing S2V was talking about. Have I missed something here, Shawna? I thought you had a rather solid "in" with Brad. Perhaps things have .. uh .. evolved. Don't know. As for "profiling" (as Fitty put it) musical similarities, I think it would be extremely intriguing and am willing to work on it, but I know NOTHING about setting up a program to make it work. If I did it, it would be pencil and paper, long-handed. But if no one else can pull it off through programming knowledge, I'll give it a shot after our 10th top ten. I figure that would give enough raw data to get a true feel for tastes and similarities.

OLD 55
And you're an important member of the Team RonJon. I'm far too lazy to do this, but with 50 songs on the hit lists already, what is the percentage breakdown by decade of release? It looks like the 70's and 60's might be neck and neck... Spot on there ! Here's the breakdown. 1950s 2 songs (4%) 1960s 21 " (42%) 1970s 21 " (42%) 1980s 4 " (8%) 1990s 2 " (4%) 2000 + Nil.
OLD 55
Edna, I think you've mixed up your #1 and #10 songs. Yes, I reluctantly left out Heart Of Gold also. The AM Breakfast radio program we listen to plays it almost every morning, so I put in a few songs I hadn't heard in a while.
