Carl
Can anyone explain what it means in the music world to "Turn the beat around"? Thanks.
RonJonSurfer
Listen to the beginning of The Stones "Start Me Up"...listen for the changing pattern of bass, drum and guitar...that is a prime example of turning the beat around. daslied
You can also find the same thing in The Cars' "Just What I Needed", at the beginning right when the vocals come in.
_jr_
Also somewhere in the middle of "Tom Sawyer" by Rush.
Levis
I heard "Pretty Woman" this morning... would that be an example?
Uncle Joe
Of what?
daslied
Levis, no, "Pretty Woman" doesn't count. It does not have a clear backbeat at the beginning (snare hits on "2" and "4"); the snare is hitting on all four beats of each measure until the vocals come in. Tenacious_Peaches
Wow, you're like smart and stuff.
daslied
Again, weigh the relevancy of this against things that actually matter. I'm smart about two things - music and baseball - but I don't know crap about anything else. I'm learning, though, thanks to "Mythbusters". daslied
Addictive, isn't it? Though he kind of frightens me, I think Jamie is the coolest. To be confident enough to wear that hat with that mustache? That dude is doing something right.
Tenacious_Peaches
He's a pimp, yo. I'm completely fascinated with that show. I'm a big Discovery Channel dork. Where's JR? He loves the D.C., too. Plus, he's the biggest Hasselhoff I know.
