Jenny
If it was in black and white, it was probably Schindler's List. That whole movie has disturbing images like that throughout...very powerful.
Opiate
Wow, nobody mentioned "Gone with the Wind". One of my favorite war movies.

Kevin
Without wanting to ask your age , I'd suggest that you may have seen an American television miniseries called "Holocaust" . After it aired on television, many movie channels replayed it. I'd guess that it was originally out 20~ or so years ago.
XXX
Yeah, it sounds like the miniseries, Holocaust. It starred James Woods, I think.

cindy17838
The Great Escape wasn't really a war movie but it could count since it was about POWs. If that won't work how about Full Metal Jacket.
XXX
I'm surprised noone - including myself - has mentioned the classics: The Guns Of Navarone and The Dirty Dozen ::

TenYearsGone
The Bridge on the River Kwai!!! It's considered by many one of the greatest films of all time. Apocolypse Now! has one of the best sountracks of any war movie with: The End - Doors Satisfaction - Rolling Stones Suzy Q - (a cover version) Wagner blasting from the helicpters... I like Kelley's Heroes too and I use to love that song from it: "Burning Bridges" by The Mike Curb Congregation, I think.
DiggsUK
I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but 'Waterloo' is IMO one of the greatest war films ever. I don't know if you have to be British to understand it, but if you get the chance, give it a go and you will be suprised I am sure. Alexander
I'm at a disadvantage. I read so much about it, I'm always picking the movies apart in their accuracy. I wish I could just sit back and enjoy the damn movie. "The Longest Day", for instance...They depict the Luftwaffe strafing the beaches. It's a know fact that there were no Luftwaffe on the shores of Normandy. They were almost completely wiped out by that point. Actually, the 2 LW planes strafing the beaches is very accurate. Obstlt. Josef "Pips" Priller and his wingman from JG26 were the only 2 pilots to attack the allies on D-Day. Priller commentated it over the Radio sarcasticly: "This is the greatest day of the Luftwaffe"
