RonJonSurfer
M&M's factory in New Jersey flips switch on new solar array By The Associated Press HACKETTSTOWN — The New Jersey candy factory that produces M&M's flipped the switch today on a new solar array that provides clean energy. The 18-acre facility in Warren County is one of the state's largest and can generate 2 megawatts of solar energy. That handles about one-fifth of the plant's needs and is enough power for roughly 1,800 homes. McLean, Va.-based Mars Inc. provided the land next to its manufacturing facility. Newark-based Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. spent more than $10 million on the 28,000 solar-panel array. Former New Jersey Governor Christie Whitman, who headed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under former President George W. Bush, called the project a blueprint for environmentally friendly business investment.
Steel2Velvet
Since shade compromises the panels because there can be no trees growing near the acreage dedicated to a solar panel array; wouldn't this constitute a rather awkward "green" tradeoff? Carbon footprint perhaps reduced at the expense of natural environment. Eighteen acres for 1/5 the needed energy ... whoa! Seems like windmills are the better concept to replace fossil fuels in a non-desert location. Windmills can co-exist with trees.

Not really, windmills need to be build away a certain distance from trees as well (maybe not 'one' tree, but a small forest), there actually is such a thing as "wind shadow" when it comes to green energy you always have to compromise... cutting down a whole forest to put solar panels there is probably not a good idea, but if you have an open field or you're able to put them on the roofs of the production facilities then it could work out

TheLizard
When I saw Styx I was close enough to the stage to see their set lists, which had the words SAN ANTONIO in huge letters on the top of it. I guess that's one way for those old guys to remember where they are.
RonJonSurfer
Yep, a DJ was talking about the Springsteen goof this morning. He said he has introduced many rock acts and he said they usually have the state or city taped to the floor or somewhere easily accessible. BTW, it's understood that all these cities start to look the same and one day blends into another when on tour. I saw something on TV once where a reporter stuck his microphone in Ian Anderson's face and asked him if he knew what city he was in. (BTW, this was at the height of Tull in the early 70's). He squinted in the sun, looked up at the skyscrapers around him and said "Minneapolis?" It was New York and he may have been playing with the reporter, but it was funny. Farin
Mick Jagger: And no matter where you are, you always say ‘It's the wildest town in the whole d*mn world.’ Wiggum: So when you said it in Springfield last year you didn't mean it? Mick Jagger: Uhhh, yeah sure I did, but only because Springfield really is the wildest town in the whole d*mn world. (everyone cheers) umm, what was this thread about again? Steel2Velvet
First 2 rules of stand up comedy: 1. If a woid sounds Yiddish - it's funny. 2. If a city name ends in with the sound of "K" - it's funny.
