  1. I have to throw in, I LOVED Anne Murray when I was little. I saw her on the Muppets and was hooked! I found that there are a lot of covers of this song, but based on your description, these seemed like the best possibilities: Jonathen Allen and Strings of Life Orchestra (Smooth jazz saxophone), on the album Romantic Saxophone [2000] Claus VanMechelen (Rock Saxophone), on the album Romantic Sax for Lovers [1985] The Staff Band Of The Women's Royal Army Corp, on the album Celebration [1990] Starsound Orchestra, on the album Romance & Love Favorites [1998] You may be able to find audio samples on Amazon. Hope it helps!
  2. I think what you are looking for is: Truly by Delerium I know good things, I know bad as well Any witness to the world will tell If there is sorrow, then there is beauty and trust A secret pearl inside the heart of us... So truly, if there's light then I want to see it Now that I know what I am looking for Truly, if there's joy then I want to feel it Here in this world is where I want to be 'Cause I can't cry anymore And there is magic now, under blood red trees, All the sky will scream a mystery And if we're strangers here, from the day we are born Why be afraid of freedom if it is yours? So truly, if there's light then I want to see it Now that I know what I am looking for Truly, if there's joy then I want to feel it Here in this world is where I want to be 'Cause I can't cry anymore All the world is calling, calling out my name All the world is saying it won't be the same All the sky is showing how it's gonna be But I'm scared and I'm tired of being like me... So truly, if there's light then I want to see it Now that I know what I am looking for Truly, if there's joy then I want to feel it Here in this world is where I want to be 'Cause I can't cry anymore
  3. Sounds like it's about masturbation to me. (J/K! - that was for you Diggs ) This almost seems too obvious, but I think its about being 14. On that verge of being grown up (& wanting to be grown up), but not quite there yet and feeling lost in the middle.
  4. No worries! In the context of talking about music that's fine...if you decided to just start up a conversation about the "acts of Onan", as you put it, for the heck of it then I'd be like this: :beady:. Peachy, Rosy Palm...too funny! That's a new one on me! Boy am I naieve, I never would have picked up on what this song is about on my own!
  5. I think that may be the first time someone answered their own question! You probably figured this out too, but in case anyone else is wondering, the name of the song is Every Other Time. What does Mahalo mean? I assume it is Hawaiian.
  6. Yes, you all can be a handful! Sometimes I feel like we're parents with 300 kids that we love but drive us nuts at times - however, you mostly give us endless hours of entertainment, making the work worthwhile! BeatleAnt - I thought your post was hysterical, which is why I put it in the new Bloopers thread when I deleted the Serious Songwriters thread. The disappearance of that thread had everything to do with the downward spiral it took and nothing to do with your post, which if anything provided some comedic relief.
  7. Of course Scott , we're happy to have your lyrics up.....I used the word 'paragraph' above which probably makes it sound like we want stories but the reason I said that was simply to get across that we do not want one liners. Also, we re-thought the comment rules and I have edited the guidlines above (just in case anyone is confused ).
  8. Let's try this again....best songwriters, here's some of the posts from the original thread: From Scott: Tammy: Ken: CyberDemon: Costellogirl: PinkFloyd: Cindy: Daniel: BeatleAnt: Sorry everyone, couldn't get them all but hopefully this is enough to continue a civilized discussion.
  9. We know how hard it is to get published, here's an outlet for your writing skills. Tell a story, fact or fiction, at least a paragraph long about anything: music, your dog, your summer vacation. If you would like to give feedback or comment on a submission, please restrict your post to constructive criticism and/or praise. (In other words, be nice. This is intended to be a safe outlet.) Forum Rules Apply
  10. Excellent suggestion, Scott. We update the Songwords and Song of the Week on Mondays, so starting this Monday the 14th we will have a week of Ray Charles, in honor of his life and contributions to the world of music.
  11. Ken, I'll help you out... KISS rules!
  12. Interesting, I like this song but have never really thought about what it means. This may be way off, but as I read the lyrics I thought the man could represent the government or some form of controlling authority.
  13. I used to always think of country singers as those who have that distinctive twangy/gravely sound. Hard to describe...Garth Brooks, The Dixie Chicks and Dolly Parton are good examples. It is a narrow definition & definitely doesn't cover everybody, especially nowadays.
  14. Hmmm, summer songs...how about Norah Jones Sunrise - feels like a lazy summer day to me. Kylie Minogue Cruise Control Erasure Chains of Love This may help and is a fun site to play with: MusicPlasma - enter the name of an artist or group and it will show you all the related artists. Great interface too.
  15. good point! I think they should remove the "moronic" items (i.e. peeing on the Alamo?!?) and make a smaller list of events that actually define Heavy Metal music. I suppose you could make the arguement that the crazy antics are a defining charteristic of many Heavy Metal groups. How about 2 lists, the top 20 Most Moronic Metal Moments (the Alamo) and the top 20 Most Memorable Metal Moments (the hand symbol). I'm sure VH1 or someone could come up with better titles! ::
  16. Heart Broken, Welcome to Songfacts and thank you for the input. I'm sorry to hear you have such a personal connection to this song.
  17. Ok, there's a big list of things I never knew happened and wish I still didn't! My first thought was here's a lot of people that have ISSUES. I agree, many of the "moments" don't really fit the list topic. This also could be titled Most Moronic Moments (that happen to have happened to Heavy Metal band members!!) - generalizing here, but you know what I mean. The rump roast(#17) is pretty funny! And I'm curious, didn't Ozzy bite the head off of a dove (or some other poor small animal)?? Why isn't that on here?
  18. I'm inclined to leave the edit time as is but I will consult with Carl and let you guys know what we decide.
  19. Oops! When I said Jesus Christ, Superstar I meant Godspell I need to stop trying to post in the middle of the night!
  20. The stage production of The Lion King - amazing costumes, visual effects and music! After that, its a tough choice for second....Rent, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Avenue Q - not all on the same par but I loved them all !Hero! sounds intriguing, I've always enjoyed seeing Jesus Christ, Superstar. I've seen that one at least 3 times, there's always a school or theater group putting it on somewhere!
  21. I think it is Denver by Steve Alaimo, it's proving to be hard to find on the internet. I only found a snippet of the lyrics: "Denver, down in Denver, she might be in trouble, Denver, down in Denver, got to get there on the double, Now she's on my mind But I can't get her on the telephone line The lines are down in Denver, And I can't reach her in Denver, A love so warm and tender Waits for me........... in Denver" Sound correct?
  22. Thanks Ant! If the world was perfect (or at least the world of Songfacts) we'd have submitted facts up in a day. Because we accept submissions from anybody that's wants to give them to us, we do our best to verify all facts, which has nothing to do with not trusting you personally. We have to be sure for ourselves to ensure the integrity of the information on the site. This takes time and we are small. So, please be patient and thank you for taking the time to submit your facts - we're doing our best to get them on the site asap!
  23. Well, Songfacts doesn't necessarily name artists that aren't part of the core group members. I found a little info for you: He is from Dundalk, MD. He appears on these albums: Michael Brewer - Beauty Lies (1983) David Crosby - Oh Yes I Can (1989) Crosby, Stills & Nash - CSN (1977) Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Replay (1980) Crosby, Stills & Nash - Daylight Again (1982) Crosby, Stills & Nash - Allies (1983) Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - American Dream (1988) Crosby, Stills & Nash - Live It Up (1990) Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Crosby, Stills & Nash (1991) Crosby, Stills & Nash - Carry On (1998) Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Looking Forward (1999) He put out 2 albums of his own: Rollercoaster Weekend (1975) Plantation Harbor (1980) And, has written songs for and performed with: The Eagles, Stephen Stills and Joe Walsh.
  24. All right, I admit it. I was having a really bad day and I wasn't feeling very "starry". I noticed too and unfortunately there's not much we can do about it. I've been giving everyone 5 stars in protest but it hasn't helped much.
  25. Hi all! A tip to make your board experience even better I'm sure many of you have already figured this out, but just to point it out to anyone that hasn't.... The default time on the Songfacts message boards is Pacific Daylight Time, which is because that is where our server resides . For anyone that lives outside of the PDT zone, like me, the clock will be off along with the time stamp on posts. You can correct this by changing the settings in your account, here's how: Click the "My Home" link in the menu at the top of the page > under Main Configuration at the bottom of your home page > click the "Edit" link next to Display preferences... The second setting is about the time, and will look like this: Current server time is: 05/26/04 10:55 AM Choose your time offset in hours (..,-2,-1,0,1,2,..) enter the difference in hours that your time is from the time displayed. For example, I live on the East coast which is 3 hours ahead, so I put 3. Someone in Hawaii would put -3 because they are 3 hours behind. Don't forget to click "Submit" at the bottom of the page! The times will automatically adjust on all posts (past & future) and on your board clock.
