Skid
...in descending 1/8th note intervals. it keeps repeating until the lyrics kick in then it ends with the same sad, pretty, dreamy piano scales? i have heard it quite often on the radio. if you can give me a clue of the artist, i can hunt around for the song. clueless-in-minneapolis
SoulGirl
i'm not xactly sure but the only one i can think of with a descending piano intro is vanessa carlton - thousandm miles, but i wouldn't call that a haunting song! there's a more haunting song called 'feel so bad', by valentine which is in the charts here in germany at the moment but i can't bring the piano part tomind right now so not sure if it fits the bill! maybe song more details would help - is the artist male or female? you you remember any snippets of lyrics, or at least what the theme of the song is?! Skid
the lyrics are male. i couldnt figure out the words. im thinking its got to be someone popular like coldplay or green day or dave matthews. it is slow and sad almost like rolling stones' bittersweet symphony. invisible_r
maybe keane? they sound alot like coldplay. "everybody's changing " or "somewhere only we know"? they all have piano intros, but those two are the most popular songs
edna
Could it be "parachutes", by Coldplay? I wonder if it´s that song, I know it has a piano like you describe it and very few lyrics... I´m just not sure if that´s the title...

Earth-Angel
That's what I was thinking too, although it could be any number of artists ::
invisible_r
well yeah, the question is pretty vague and i think we've covered all the well known contemporary artists that use pianos
daslied
What about "Trouble" by Coldplay? That was a decent hit (and a great song) from the "Parachutes" album, and I don't think anyone said it yet.
Skid
these are all great songs! but alas, they were not meant to be. the piano intro in question is played arpeggio-style as a student would play scales, and they descend in a minor chord so it sounds very wistfull and melancholy. i know it sounds vague. this is a true test of the internet's power. invisible_r
just out of curiosity, are you actually downloading every single song we suggest to check?
Skid
yep, that is why i said all your suggestions were pretty songs, too. there is a website that will find your song if you play it or hum it into the microphone. maybe i will try that too but im not getting my hopes up because i sing like a whale. I'd like to feed in some Yoko tunes and see if they can figure out what species' language she's singing in... ::

Skid
this is as close as i could get to it playing by ear on the keyboard (in 1/8th notes arpeggio-style): CAFCCAFACAFCCAFABGbEbBBGbEbGbBGbEbBBGbEbGb...x2 or 3 more times. can you help? Skid
the name of the site is http://www.whatsthenameofthatsong.com. pretty original. i cant vouch for it because after i hummed a few bars of this soft, lilting ballad it matched it to a Sir MixALot tune (I like Big Butts, to be exact).
