The best mix-tape you ever made?

Every music lover understands the joy and significance of making a mix-tape (still the classic format despite being replaced with the mix-CD or even mix-MD). In Nick Hornby's novel 'Hi-Fidelity', Rob Gordon (the character played by John Cusack in the movie) speaks of the art of making the perfect mix-tape. Glen Hansard of The Frames refers to making a mix-tape for a girl he fancies in their song 'Your Face'. So what was the best mix-tape you ever made, the one you feel proud of to this day?

I have many but one of the best has to be the CD I made for all my classmates when we finished school 2 1/2 years ago. Instead of a yearbook I thought it would be a nice idea to compile a double CD, with each of our favourite songs on it. You can tell so much about a person by what music they love and just hearing the opening notes of some of these songs still reminds me of the person who picked it. Of course, I had no control over the content of the CD so a couple of songs are god-awful and a few (especially the ones near the end of Disc II) were chosen for pure novelty value or because they had funny memories for the class such as 'How Bizarre' which our PE teacher made us work out to in 1st Year! But for the most part my classmates had pretty good taste in music!

P.S. No prizes for guessing which song was mine!

Ooooh Mixtapes! Nothing like declaring your secret love using the words and music of others in the most subtle and flattering way. I love a good mixtape/CD, but it would be too hard to narrow it down to a single good one. I can remember the best one made for me had Alice in Chains, silverchair, coldplay, embrace, smoke city, heather nova, garth brooks, catatonia, feeder, radiohead and I believe ben folds five on it. Aaah memories :)

I love the selection on your CD's G, really good choices!

Mixed music is a beautiful thing...if you hit it just right. I can't recall how many i've made, where, upon the first or second listen, I find myself skipping track 3 and 6, because they don't fit with the flow.

I did, however come up with one from a very specific time, with alot of bands that just melded together quite well. All were from, oh, 74-77 otr so, with a few stragglers.

Baby Come Back ~ Player

Just Remember I Love You ~ Firefall

Dream Weaver ~ Gary Wright

Imaginary Lover ~ Atlanta Rythmn Section

Those are just a few, but the whole cd had that aura. I played for quite some time.

The best mix I've ever made was a blues cd. It started off with Robert Johnson, flowed into acoustic Clapton, into Clapton,BB king and SRV. Then into some assorted stuff, finishing up with some Etta James. I made it probably 3 years ago and listen to it all the time. :headphones:I've made several others but this one I seem to have done right cause it fits me!

I´ve done so many on cassette for my walkman... One of my top had Elvis "The Wonder of You", Neil sedaka, "Breaking up is hard to do", Blondie, "Denis, Denis", and mucho Motown.

I also have one old tape called "The divorces tape" (obvious why...) whit songs like "Drive" (Cars) "Say goodbye to Little Joe" (Steve Forbert) "Sensitive" (Mick Karr) and some by Smitherens, Stranglers ("Always the sun") and I don´t remember much more... It´s my favorite tape coz I listened to it in the lower moments, when I had to jump back again to life...

As a matter of fact, I am making one right now with my old double-deck CD recorder :headphones: I've made so many in my brief time that I wouldn't know which one is better. The ones I used to make for my ex-girlfriends were pretty good, but I got rid of them ;)

The one I am making right now is for the long drive back to OC which is approximately 80 mins. if the traffic is not heavy. This one is 79m19s.

"Falling Out Of Love" by Aqualung

"Nena" by Miguel Bose

"Wild Is The Wind" as performed by David Bowie

"Wonderland" by (Clan Of) Xymox

"Which Way To Turn" by Bryan Ferry

"Milk" by Garbage

"Diary Of A Taxi Driver (Album Version)" by Bernard Herrmann

"Theme From Taxi Driver" by Bernard Herrmann

"They Died For Beauty" by Ilya

"Can't Do A Thing (To Stop Me)" by Chris Isaak

"A Strange Kind Of Love" by Peter Murphy

"Promises Promises (UK Version)" by Naked Eyes

"Thieves Like Us (Instrumental)" by NewOrder

"I'd Die Without You" by P.M. Dawn

"You Got Lucky" by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

"Wrapped Around Your Finger" by The Police

"True To Life" by Roxy Music

I think I mainly made this compilation so I could plug in the one Ilya song and wear it out that way :headphones:

I just made a mixed CD for 2 people that I work with. I had so much fun making them because a] I love all the songs and b] I know how much they will enjoy it. I know you "rock" people might not enjoy this as much, but here goes...

1. Brick House ? The Commodores

2. Ain?t No Sunshine ? Bill Withers

3. Best Of My Love ? The Emotions

4. Midnight Train To Georgia ? Gladys Knight & The Pips

5. Always & Forever ? Heatwave

6. Lean On Me ? Bill Withers

7. If Lovin? You Is Wrong ? Luther Ingram

8. Who?s Makin? Love ? Johnnie Taylor

9. Let?s Stay Together ? Al Green

10. Ain?t Too Proud To Beg ? The Temptations

11. Love Won?t Let Me Wait ? Major Harris

12. I Wish - Stevie Wonder

13. Kiss & Say Goodbye ? The Manhattans

14. Me & Mrs. Jones ? Billy Paul

15. Reasons ? Earth, Wind & Fire

16. Tell Me Something Good ? Rufus & Chaka Khan

17. Got To Be Real ? Cheryl Lynn

18. September ? Earth, Wind & Fire

You haven't heard anything until you've heard Mama Peaches singing "Reasons" by EW&F. If you've never heard it or Phillip Bailey's high pitched voice, let me just say the dogs come a-runnin'. ::
