Tenacious_Peaches
Let's face it...there's always room for cello. It's the throwaway little one liners like this one from Uncle Joe that make it worth wading through all of horse crap that sometimes fills the threads. Peace, dammit. ::
Uncle Joe
That's a bagpipe at the end of 'Lucky Man'? Really? Bagpipe effect actually.
Batman
Oh my, a little touchy aren't we? I did that for the sake of those that haven't seen it, bright boy. Besides, do you even realize how long ago the cowbell thread was? Of course you do, you're on my butt like stink on poopy. Comparing me to copy and paste is the most hypocritical thing I've ever been told on this site. What you did months ago, on the same page, on the same day, probably the same hour, is nothing compared to reviving cowbell songs. But, complain, it's your right. You gotta be kidding me, copy-catboy. hmmm...good point. Damn! No smartass comeback for me I guess. Sigh...(I can't find the sighing smilie)

MuzikTyme
Maybe because you were a bit curious regarding what it'd be like getting kissed by a black man? Speaking of the topic: No, the flute doesn't pollute. Hey, that sounds a bit like Kraftwerk: I'm the operator with my pocket calculator...

edna
Ahhhh, then there's the beloved bagpipes. Used to perfection on EL&P's "Lucky Man" and on Eric Burdon's "Sky Pilot". PS: Just in case...I don't give a good goddam if this was used in any previous posts. I'm devil-may-care that way. "Sky Pilot", what an incredible song!!! I´ll post it so you can see it´s true, it´s bagpipes... well, even if it cannot be heard, Unky Joe is right, it is bagpipes. SKY PILOT Eric Burdon He blesses the boys as they stand in line The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine He's there to help them all that he can To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man Sky pilot.....sky pilot How high can you fly You'll never, never, never reach the sky He smiles at the young soldiers Tells them its all right He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight Soon there'll be blood and many will die Mothers and fathers back home they will cry Sky pilot.....sky pilot How high can you fly You'll never, never, never reach the sky He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile The order is given They move down the line But he's still behind and he'll meditate But it won't stop the bleeding or ease the hate As the young men move out into the battle zone He feels good, with God you're never alone He feels tired and he lays on his bed Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said Sky pilot.....sky Pilot How high can you fly You'll never, never, never reach the sky You're soldiers of God you must understand The fate of your country is in your young hands May God give you strength Do your job real well If it all was worth it Only time it will tell In the morning they return With tears in their eyes The stench of death drifts up to the skies A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot Remembers the words "Thou shalt not kill" Sky pilot.....sky pilot How high can you fly You never, never, never reach the sky
edna
By the way, Eric Burdon and some Animals are playing tomorrow night in Madrid... I don´t know if I´ll go, I´ve seen him maybe five or seven times and besides my husband is still sick, I´d rather stay home... but in case I´ll go, I´ll go backstage and ask him about the bagpipes (beautifull...) in "Sky Pilot". bazooka
Sky Pilot Don't think this was questioned, but here's a smidgen of trivia. "Sound effects of fighting, gunfire, airplanes, and bagpipes were used. The pipe band was the Royal Scot's Dragoon Guards, a Highland regiment. Lead singer Eric Burdon tape-recorded them at a school and used the pipe music during the middle of the song along the war sound effects." source: Songfacts (<) The music fan's best friend for smidgens of trivia. Uncle Joe
How about the flute in many of The Marshall Tucker Band's songs? Oh yes Muzik...my favorite MTB song, "Heard It In A Love Song" features the flute prominently. ... "cain't be wrong".
Jazzcat
Dave Mason had a way cool flute solo in his song "Show Me Some Affection".
Steel2Velvet
The flute in rock (actually pop, in this case) was set back a few years by Chicago sometime back, in their sappy ballad, "Color My World." This should not be construed as innovation or getting "the guts" out of a flute. This was just a need to make some money by churning out another formula hit song by a band that knows how to do that. OLD 55
Q. How do you tell if a flute's in tune? A. Who cares? (although I DO like it in Goin Up The Country) Q. How do you tell a Scottish gentleman? A. He knows how to play the bagpipes, but doesn't. bazooka
"20 Polka Favorites" That would have to include The Power To The Punk People Polka by The Happy Wanderers, along with the awesome video. I wouldn't say the clarinet and accordian "poison" rock, but they do make it ill.

OLD 55
Back in MY day (stretchhhhh, creaaaak) all you needed was a lead guitar, standup bass, saxophone (mandatory), drum kit and a piano - except there were no roadies to carry a piano. In fact there weren't any roadies at all.

OLD 55
I shouldn't joke about it. My hearing isn't what it could be anymore. I think those blaring saxophones did it.
