pmhughes
I have always pretty much lived my life through song lyrics. Now am looking for that right song that would be perfect to that perfect woman. Quick insight to situation. We fell in love in high school. Were bf and gf until graduation, when her parents made her break it off because they were moving. I thought it was what she wanted. Worst heartache I ever knew, we really were perfect together. Self medicated with alcohol for many years. we ended up losing touch a few years after we graduated. both married others and have two kids each. (The morning of my weddng I could not think of anything except that it was supposed to be her, and wanted anything to happen to stop the weddng.) Yes, I know what kind of awful person that makes me. Anyway, I tried to be good husband and father. Eventually we did divorce, due to her choice. Meanwhile, my high school love had been living her life still holding on to feelings for me that I was never aware of. She and her husband are currently separating. several months ago, I was finally able to locate her, and we managed to see each other... For the near thirty years that we were apart, I had completely given up on true love, something I had always so strongly believed in.The day I saw her, after all those years, I immediately believed again. My love was as strong as ever. we are very much in love. And though we still have some tough maneuvers to get through, there is no doubt we are and always were meant to be together. So, whats the song that fits best?

Carl
Your story is very similar to what Jason Michael Carroll went through. He sang about it in "Livin' Our Love Song."

Otokichi
"Dream To Live" Set off for America far across the ragin' seaFrom the frozen coves of my island homeTo the land of libertyI have to leave my girl behindUntil I make my wayOh Molly dear please wait for meI'll come back for you some dayWe landed hard in Bostonand I'd never seen the likeA small boat boy from around the bayIn this sea of shining lightsTwo days in I got a jobBuilding towers of high steelI had to learn, to not look downAnd I quickly learned to kneelAll I need is one good nights sleepIn your loving arms, to mendWe sleep to dreamAnd we dream to liveWill I live to love you againI saved every cent I couldBut the months turned into yearsThen a letter came from Mollyand confirmed my deepest fearsShe would no longer wait for me,she'd found a better manI might have been in America, but my heart was brokenIn NewfoundlandMy working days are over nowAnd my children have all grownI did the best with what I hadBut some days I feel aloneI often wonder where you areDo you still know my nameDeep inside this old man's heartThere's a love that still remains The narrator is an emigrant from Eastern Canada, who left his true love behind, and ultimately lost her to a hometown guy. _Laurie_
Same Old Lang Syne ~ Dan FogelbergPerfect song for the holiday season Met my old lover in the grocery storeThe snow was falling Christmas EveI stood behind her in the frozen foodsAnd I touched her on the sleeveShe didn't recognize the face at firstBut then her eyes flew open wideShe went to hug me and she spilled her purseAnd we laughed until we criedWe took her groceries to the check out standThe food was totaled up and baggedWe stood there lost in our embarrassmentAs the conversation laggedWe went to have ourselves a drink or twoBut couldn't find an open barWe bought a six-pack at the liquor storeAnd we drank it in her carWe drank a toast to innocenceWe drank a toast to nowWe tried to reach beyond the emptinessBut neither one knew howShe said she's married her an architectWho kept her warm and safe and dryShe would have liked to say she loved the manBut she didn't like to lieI said the years had been a friend to herAnd that her eyes were still as blueBut in those eyes I wasn't sure if I sawDoubt or gratitudeShe said she saw me in the record storesAnd that I must be doing wellI said the audience was heavenlyBut the traveling was HellWe drank a toast to innocenceWe drank a toast to nowWe tried to reach beyond the emptinessBut neither one knew howWe drank a toast to innocenceWe drank a toast to timeReliving, in our eloquenceAnother "Auld Lang Syne"The beer was empty and our tongues were tiredAnd running out of things to sayShe gave a kiss to me as I got outAnd I watched her drive awayJust for a moment I was back at schoolAnd felt that old familiar painAnd, as I turned to make my way back homeThe snow turned into rain.....
